YOU? are awesomesauce! I keep seeing you with that icon all over the place (no, not stalking, promise) and every time I see it there's this little !squee! because i totally loved that one too, and the little moue is just EEE! it makes me happy. thank you for loving it!

and, also, i'll take the easy one: Btvs.

heee! I'm glad that it makes you happy! The icon definitely makes me happy, it's such an awesome icon!

01. The first character I fell in love with: As cliched as it is, I think it was Spike.

02. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Xander. When I first watched the show I actually kinda hated him. It's funny how things change!

03. The character everyone else loves that I don’t: I think I'd have to say Angel (with the addendum that I love him on Angel)

04. The character I love that everyone else hates: I seem to be in a bit of a minority with my love for Andrew (but I more enjoy him as a comedic character, if that makes sense)

05. A pairing that I love: canon - Xander/Cordy

06. A pairing that I despise: canon - S3 Buffy/Angel (I just found them so boring)

07. 5 things I enjoy about the fandom:
- the awesome friends I've made (including meeting my girlfriend!)
- getting to interact with amazing writers and artists and tell them what I love about their work
- the really insightful and creative takes on characters, pairings and stories
- rethinking characters and pairings because of people's meta or fic
- it's a place I can share my love for BtVS with people who understand!

08. And 5 that suck:
- character bashing, especially Buffy bashing (I don't get it, I love Buffy!)
- some of the truly horrendous and horrifyingly out of character fics that seem to come from people who didn't watch the same show I did
- the fact that the fandom seems to be getting smaller
- the S8 comic books are a disappointment for me after reading such great post-Chosen fic - they're not my canon
- I wish there were more good S/X writers still around (there are still good ones, of course, but I want more writers!!)

09. Who are my 3 favorite characters: Oh, this is so hard! Buffy, Xander and Spike (If I could have 4 I'd include Anya!)

10. Who are my 3 least favorite characters: Angel (but I love him on his own show), Riley (he could be dorkily funny but most of the time I found him boring), Kennedy

11. What are my 3 favorite pairings: fanon - Spike/Xander, Giles/Xander, Dawn/Faith

12. What are my 3 least favorite pairings: fanon/canon - Buffy/Riley, Xander/Faith, Giles/Willow or Buffy

13. Which character you're most like: Hmm, probably a weird mix of Xander, Willow and Giles.

14. What is my deep, dark fandom secret: I'm just not a big Faith fan. I like her more in S7 (and in later Angel seasons), but I just don't have the character love for her (although I don't hate her).

I agree with you on the Faith thing -- I find her storyline interesting, and there are times I feel for her (especially in the s5 arc she has) or like her reactions, but I don't have a surge of feeling for her the way I do for other main or supporting characters on the show.

And man, 100% with you on the s8-comics-are-not-my-canon position! For me the s8 comics were something that hurt my enthusiasm for the fandom, unfortunately. I didn't foresee that happening, especially when I got all psyched about the Joyce Chen Xander cover, but it was a contributor. Meh.

Oh, it's neat to hear that we share a Faith non-love. Like you I really feel for her at times, but it's the lack of surge of feeling that I have for her. She's also an intimidating character for me write - despite that Dawn/Faith is a favourite pairing of mine. Oh well, it's a good challenge!

I think that there's a good number of us who take 'the S8 comics are not canon' position. Really the only way I can deal is to try and ignore the whole thing (for the most part!) even when friends say it's gotten better. That really sucks that the S8 comics hurt your enthusiasm for the fandom - that makes me dislike them even more! It's hard cause it has been a bit divisive in the fandom, in terms of those who are enjoying them and consider them canon, and those of us who don't. Oh fandom! :D

Anne of Green Gables!!!
[identity profile] cordelianne.livejournal.com wrote:

Eee! Anne of Green Gables! :D

01. The first character I fell in love with: Anne! Definitely Anne!

02. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now: Marilla! I think as a kid I had a similar trajectory to Anne in terms of how I perceived Marilla - she takes a while to get to know, whereas with Matthew I loved him immediately.

03. The character everyone else loves that I don’t: I don't think there is anyone - I suspect I love lots of characters other people hate.

04. The character I love that everyone else hates: I'm not totally in touch with the AoGG fandom but I'm going to guess that it's Miss Cornelia Bryant (from Anne's House of Dreams and Anne of Ingleside). Although that's just speculation on my part, perhaps others love her as much as I do!

05. A pairing that I love: Anne/Gilbert (of course!)

06. A pairing that I despise: Anne/Roy (okay not really, but I didn't love them like Anne/Gilbert)

07. 5 things I enjoy about the fandom:
- Anne feels as relevant a female character now as she did 100 years ago when the book first became a best seller. Who doesn't love strong, smart, imaginative women?!
- there's extensive canon - 8 books plus movies, a musical and related short stories!
- romantic female friendship is canon!
- Anne fans are everywhere
- it has inspired me to go to PEI (on my own) and visit all the Anne and LM Montomgery locations

08. And 5 that suck:
- I have not succeeded at finding any good sites, or communities about Anne that will discuss things like queer subtext or feminist subtext or character arcs or themes (discussing if one is too young to get married doesn't interest me)
- I'm afraid of reading most Anne fanfic
- the prequel (book & tv movie) and the continuing story (3rd tv movie) - neither of those are my canon!
- I have horrified people by mentioning the lesbian subtext in the books
- I think I may be the only one who thinks Walter (Anne's son) is gay

09. Who are my 3 favorite characters: oh no, this is hard, I want to say all of the main characters! Anne, Marilla, Matthew (that was so hard not mentioning Diana and Gilbert - heh)

10. Who are my 3 least favorite characters: Josie Pye, Mr. Phillips, Diana's mom (but we're not supposed to like them!)

11. What are my 3 favorite pairings: fanon - Anne/Diana, Marilla/Rachel Lynde, and Marilla & Matthew (just their relationship as brother and sister - no incest!)

12. What are my 3 least favorite pairings: I can't think of anyone

13. Which character you're most like: Anne, definitely Anne

14. What is my deep, dark fandom secret: I think the Emily books are by far the better books and series, yet I still love Anne more.

Awww, I'm so glad the series has brought you so much joy -- I love the enthusiastic "Anne! Definitely Anne!" of the first answer.

What a shame the online fandom seems to be a bit narrow in scope in terms of talking about stuff like sexuality or queer subtext. I hear you on being afraid to read the fanfic! I've felt that way about book-fanfic, for series or authors I love so dearly I don't think I could bear to see people handle their characters and themes with anything less than excellence.

What fun -- so glad you did the meme too!

I was so excited that you asked about Anne! It was so fun to think about the books. :D

Yeah, it's sad that I've never succeeded at finding an Anne fandom that talks about my interests. I think the more old-fashioned aspects appeal to so many fans whereas with something like Buffy (which does have the types of discussions I had looked for with Anne) things like feminism and being gay are in the text so a lot of fans are attracted to that. It's very good I discovered the Buffy fandom!

Thanks for asking about Anne! :D
