And I'm eating this banana. Lunchtime be damned! (btvs 3:16)

It’s icy and snowy outside (thankfully not the loss of power and crazy ice storm conditions other people have been experiencing – although it has been freezing rain today), so I’ve been enjoying my day off by snuggling under a blanket and catching up on my TV watching.

It feels like ages since I did a TV post, so I’m excited to share some brief thoughts on some of the TV I’ve been watching. So guess which show is making me very happy right now?!! If you guessed Ugly Betty you’re right!

Ugly Betty – First Five episodes
Okay, I adore Betty so much. Her smile just lights up the screen and makes me smile. This season I’ve been pretty disappointed with two of my favourite female-centric shows (Veronica Mars and Gilmore Girls) so it’s been refreshing to have a show with a wonderful, spirited and nice lead that makes me so happy. I don’t love the mystery aspect of it, but the family and co-worker interactions are absolutely fabulous. I just get such joy from watching the show, and it’s nice to have that again.

Grey’s Anatomy – ‘Six Days Part One’ (3:11)
This is another show that gives me lots of joy to watch. I really love that Meredith’s current storyline is about her (non)relationship with her dad – it’s nice that it’s not always about her romantic life. Speaking of romance, I am enjoying the developments between Addison and Alex! Oh! And yay for George kissing Callie! What I really loved in this episode was both Meredith and Izzy being there for George – it was nice to see them as good friends.

24 – Day 6: 6am-7am & 7am-8am
Unfortunately football went long and cut into 24 which means I haven’t seen the last 15 minutes (it’s airing tonight, so I’ll catch it then hopefully). However, I’ve been enjoying being back on the 24 thrill train again. Man, Jack killing the guy by biting him was definitely one of the grossest murders I’ve seen. And awwww to Jack saying “I don’t know how to do this anymore,” really awesome line delivery by Keifer. Um, I don’t have much smart to say about the show, I mostly enjoy it for it’s cracktasticness.

The Office – ‘Back from Vacation’ and ‘Traveling Salesmen’ (3:12 & 3:13)
This show continues to impress me with its brilliance! In “Back from Vacation” I loved how Pam helped Karen with Jim and then breaks down later. And how brilliant was Dwight comforting her?! That scene perfectly swung from poignant and touching to funny (with the PMS comment). And then the final Michael and Jan scene was so – I don’t have words other than ‘wow’! Fabulous episode!

I also loved “Traveling Salesmen”! Phyllis and Karen with those hairdos was so awesome! And I loved Dwight’s speech – I wonder how long it’ll be before he returns.

30 Rock – Random season 1 thoughts
When I first watched this I wasn’t that into it, but this is a case where I’m so happy I stuck with a show because I love it now. It reminds me of Arrested Development because it has that same weird sense of humour. And man, Alec Baldwin is so damn funny! And how hysterical is Kenny?!

SPN – ‘Hunted’ (2:10)
Yay! I’ve really enjoyed the last 2 episodes of SPN! AND I really liked the girl who had the visions and hope she’s alright (I think she’s that Canadian actress who starred in the movie Ginger Snaps).

Oh! And if you’re interested, I did a post at [livejournal.com profile] buffyversetop5 of my choices for the Top 5 Spike/Xander fics of 2006. There’s so many other fabulous rec posts there, I definitely recommend spending some time browsing around there.

I love this new icon I'm using by [livejournal.com profile] apreludetoanend (it's her most recent post) - how awesome is it?!!!

The only shows that I watch on your list are GA and SPN. My memory is so bad, that when I was reading your thoughts on GA I was thinking that they were for an episode that aired tonight! Wait, has there been a new episode since before x-mas? Maybe I missed one. Or possibly my memory is just that crappy. :D But either way, Izzy is my fave.

I'm enjoying SPN too. I think that that show and Friday Night Lights are the two shows that I look forward to most this season.

Your new icon is cute! *g*

[identity profile] cordelianne.livejournal.com 2007-01-16 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
Oh dear! I hope you didn't miss a GA episode! There was a new one last Thursday which was really awesome. If you did miss it you should be able to watch it on the ABC website - they stream the episodes there (although I can't see it in Canada - they block us). I adore Izzy although for some reason the only GA icon I have currently is this one with Meredith - I feel the need to show my affection for Meredith because she's often hated by fans.

I'm so pleased that I'm enjoying SPN again (I wasn't that thrilled with a few of the earlier episodes this season, but it's really picked up for me). I was doing lots of TV catch-up today and was hoping I'd be caught up so I could finally watch FNL but I didn't. A friend and I have plans to get together and watch the first few episodes of it - so I will see it! *g*

Oooh! Your new icon is cute too! *hugs*

I did miss it! Damn my DVR, it's supposed to do these things for me. *kicks it* I will have to check out ABC.com and hopefully the episode will be up there.

Meredith is my mom's favorite character. Just so you know that she's getting some love. :D

[identity profile] cordelianne.livejournal.com 2007-01-16 05:16 am (UTC)(link)
Oh no! *glares at your DVR* It should be doing it's job better!!! I know that sometimes the streaming can be slow, but the ABC website's a good option if you've missed the show, and it should still be there. Last week was part one of two, so it sets up a lot of things. *is vague*

hee, I'm glad your mom likes Meredith! It's good she's getting some love cause I feel there's a lot of backlash against her. Her mom having Alzheimer's' really helps me sympathize with Meredith's character. I was trying to list off my favourite character and realize I like them all (or enjoy disliking them, ie. McSteamy). It's a great ensemble!

*hugs*

That's so funny, cause I was just reading and commenting on your first one! And am now in the midst of reading the second one. So you're absolutely correct - I do enjoy them!!! *g*

I'm so glad you posted this! We're leaving for Florida in about six hours, and I almost forgot to make sure the TiVos are set up for the week! How are you enjoying SPN this season? I don't want to read your blurb about it because I'm still stuck halfway through S1 (even though I got it in September), but I've got S2 waiting on the TiVo, and I hope to get to it soon!

So glad you like the icon! *hugs*

[identity profile] cordelianne.livejournal.com 2007-01-16 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
Yay for the good timing - I'm always happy to remind people about ensuring they get their shows recorded! *g*

Re: SPN. I probably should tell you that I really enjoy the show but I don't LOVE it the way many others. ie. I think it's a really good show but it didn't make my top 10 list of tv shows for 2006. Anyway, to your actual question, I really enjoyed the first episode of S2 and then was disappointed by the next few episodes cause the quality dipped a bit. But fortunately that seemed to only be temporary and I've really enjoyed the last few episodes and am currently very happy with the show.

I love the icons on your post and had a hard time deciding which ones to upload. *g*

I hope you have a fabulous vacation!!! *hugs*

heeeeee! That icon is fantastic!

I'm glad to hear you're enjoying your TV shows. :D I watched the first couple of episodes (or maybe just the first?) of Ugly Betty and I quite liked it. But it's the usual story of me forgetting that I own a TV and that I can watch stuff on it. Damn Photoshop computer. *g*

[identity profile] cordelianne.livejournal.com 2007-01-16 05:11 am (UTC)(link)
It's such a fun icon - and the subject matter is particularly close to my heart! :D

Yes - it's nice to be enjoying my TV shows! heeee - I'm very amused by how you forget you own your TV! The computer is very distracting (or in your case Photoshop!). That's great to hear you enjoyed Ugly Betty when you saw it - it's a very fun show!

[identity profile] margarks.livejournal.com 2007-01-16 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
eh, i don't watch any of the shows you're talking about, lol! But I have to tell you that I ALWAYS love the quotes you use for your subject headers. :D

[identity profile] cordelianne.livejournal.com 2007-01-16 06:32 pm (UTC)(link)
heee - I shall have to expand my TV watching so I'm watching the shows you are!! *g* Yay! I'm pleased you enjoy the btvs quotes!!

*hugs*

BTVS 3:16

[identity profile] mr-dave-gripes.livejournal.com 2007-01-19 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know what this says about me, but when I first saw your BTVS quote with the "3:16" at the end, I thought you were making up a "chapter and verse" to lend artificial authority to your citation.

You know, like John 3:16 or (from the pro-westling) Austin 3:16.

Well, it's not THAT crazy - I DO live with two religious studies post-grads.

Re: BTVS 3:16

[identity profile] cordelianne.livejournal.com 2007-01-19 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
hee! Well, when I was trying to figure out how to note the season and episode numbers I *did* copy the way that the bible does the whole chapter/verse thing ... so it's not a crazy reaction especially considering who you live with!

So the first number is the season the episode is from and the second is the episode number.

Thanks for the pimp (and the post :>) Yes, The Office is definitely doing some interesting things. I found the sales calls pretty interesting. Among other things it's one of the few times we see people doing actual work. I thought Jane E.'s post on it had some points to mull over.

We started watching 30 Rock only after it moved to Thursdays but I think NBC's got a good comedy block there. We're enjoying it too, and I think Baldwin deserved that Golden Globe nod.

Great icon as well!

[identity profile] cordelianne.livejournal.com 2007-01-16 10:09 pm (UTC)(link)
You're welcome - of course if I'd been more organized I would have pimped sooner! But it's fun to go through the posts now too. *g*

Very true - I was actually thinking of Jane's post while watching the show! It was very cool to see the characters actually selling the product. I liked seeing their different styles and how most of the characters had their strengths. I particularly thought of Jane's comments about Michael when he was on his sales call because it really demonstrated how good he is, especially compared to the Ed Helm's character's approach.

It's such a fun icon, isn't it?!
