To read makes our speaking English good. (btvs 1:8)

So it’s been a crazy week in which I worked too much (because of all the slacking I’d done previously), and didn’t get enough sleep because I still tried to do everything I normally do after work.

Now I’m looking at the “notes” I made while watching various tv shows and shaking my head at how unhelpful they are. For example, here’s something I wrote about this about this week’s Gilmore Girls episode: “Come what may. (Moulin Rouge)” Um, what? I think someone may have said that line and I was noting that it’s the title of that song in Moulin Rouge, but I can’t recall the context.

Anyway, here are my thoughts about my tv shows:

Gilmore Girls ‘Driving Miss Gilmore’ 6:21

Seeing Amy Sherman-Palladino & Daniel Palladino’s names in the writing credits made me sad because neither of them will be working on the show next year. It’s very distressing that Amy Sherman-Palladino is leaving because she’s the show creator, this is her vision, and she’s written at least a third of episodes. She and Daniel Palladino have shaped the show. I’m concerned that the show’s quality and spirit will suffer next year. Let’s face it, Sherman-Palladino is the Gilmore Girls.

I was very pleased to see Danny Strong (aka Jonathan on BtVS) back as Doyle. He and Paris made the scene with Logan so much more enjoyable. I try, I really do (I don’t want to dislike a character), but I just can’t care about Logan.

The revelation that Emily and Richard are buying a home for Luke and Lorelai was a heart-wrenching moment. Such an impressive show of support from Emily and Richard, who are not Luke’s biggest fans. However, Lorelai telling her mom she doesn’t think the wedding will happen is a wonderfully painful moment. I like how we saw the worst aspect of Lorelai’s relationship with her mother (their bickering and pettiness), and their best aspect (Emily being supportive and Lorelai trusting her mom with her worries).

I dread what seems to be in store for Luke & Lorelai, because I’d really like for them to work. Not that I don’t think there’s problems, but it would be nice if we could see them resolve them together.

But my big revelation this week (when I was doing the favourite character moments meme was that Lorelai’s name should be spelled with an “a” instead of an “e”. It turns out I’ve been spelling it wrong for ages (I kept spelling it Lorelei). I checked the back of the season one DVD that I own, and theWB website, and they both agree with the transcripts that spell it with an “a” (I actually “corrected” the transcripts to the “e” spelling because I thought they were wrong). How have I never noticed my mistake until now?

Veronica Mars ‘Happy Go Lucky’ 2:21

This is one of the shows in which I made completely unhelpful notes, eg. “Woody is a pedophile.” Yeah, that I’d remember, especially since we’ve been speculating about that for weeks now. It would be more helpful if I’d noted something more specific! Clearly this not being in school is making my note writing bad (that’s me semi-quoting Xander, which means my BtVS knowledge is still good!)

I do recall finding those last few minutes before the credits with Lucky and the gun incredibly intense. I believe there was gasping and shaking, especially when he shot Wallace. Oh! I did make a note about that: “Oh crap. I’m shaking from the opening.”

I loved when Veronica said: Elementary, my dear Wallace.

I’m amused by the details I caught and noted down, including this: “Mac will be at Hurst!! There better be a 3rd season.”

And I also remembered that “the kid who’s with Cassidy is the one who filmed Logan’s mom.” He was the freshman in “Mars vs. Mars” (1:14) who had captured Logan’s mom plummeting to her death off the bridge. My theory is that he and Cassidy were both molested when they were in Little League. Why you ask? Because why else did that character return for a few seconds in a scene it was unnecessary for him to be in?

Also, yay for Cassidy and Mac getting back together! And yay for Weevil getting a “B”. Too bad that he won’t get to enjoy that victory for long (oh those pesky kids!).

Scrubs ‘My Fallen Idol’ 5:21

This is an episode that I actually made decent notes about! Yay me.

J.D. and Turk are the gayest straight best friends ever. I love that there was a flashback to their first attempted hug.

Of course, this episode was much more about J.D. and Dr. Cox’s relationship. It was neat to see another layer be added when J.D. was able to inspire Dr. Cox. I am so in love with what J.D. said to him that I transcribed it:

J.D.: I was scared. I guess after all this time, I still think of you as, like, this superhero, that’ll help me out of any situation I’m in. I needed that. But that’s my problem, you know, and I’ll deal with that. I guess I came over here to tell you, how proud of you I am. Not because you did the best you could for those patients. But because after 20 years of being a doctor, when things go badly you still take it this hard. I gotta tell you, man. That’s the kind of doctor I want to be.”

When J.D. says he thinks of Dr. Cox as a superhero, it recalls to me the theme song in the credits (Superman by Lazlo Bane):

But I can't do this all on my own
No, I know I'm no Superman
I'm no Superman

I love seeing J.D. step out of his constant yearning for Dr. Cox’s approval and become a mentor for the man who’s been mentoring him.

I love this show!!

The Amazing Race ‘Man, They Should Have Used Their Fake Names’

This is all I wrote about the episode: “Karma, baby karma.”

I was referring to the frat guys’ cab not coming after they called and canceled the cabs for two other teams.

Thank goodness this was non-elimination and the hippies are still in it! MoJo annoyed me by complaining about the Yield. It’s part of the game! And as if they wouldn’t have yielded the hippies if they’d gotten there first.

Smallville – Oracle 5:21

Okay, I know that Smallville sucks at consistency, but how could anyone believe that Jonathan – he of the sanctimonious speeches - would suggest murder. Here’s my thoughts after Jonathan first appeared to Clark:
“That’s so not his dad telling him to kill Lionel.
Jonathan would NEVER suggest Clark kill anyone. Please!!!”

I’m kind of entertained by my random reactions to the episode as it aired (anything in italics are my additions now):

Lois could so kick Lana’s ass!
“Bad boy blues” I was entertained by Lois saying that phrase. Although I didn’t buy the whole Lois and Lana are suddenly bonding thing.

Chloe: “All right. Hand me a cloak and call me Horatio.” I love Chloe, and that’s actually a decent line – go Smallville writers!

Lionel to Lex: “You’re involved with Milton Fine.” *snickers* I love the subtext on this show
Lionel to Lex: “And not knowing who you’re in bed with can lead to a very uncomfortable awakening.” I love that the slashy subtext just gets more intense!

Possessed!Lionel. Very cool.

Lex collecting viruses, and altering them into vaccines. I think that was me noting that info for myself. I’m not sure why I did that since it’s better not to pay too much attention to the story details on the show.

Oh this totally isn’t Jonathan. (When “Jonathan” appears to Martha.)
Ah ha! I was right!

Oh James is so very pretty. Especially when he does the head tilt. I am so shallow. *g*

Lionel: “Your father would never make you a murderer, Clark.” I think that’s about the truest thing Lionel’s ever said.

Wow, good acting on Jonathon’s part, he looks like JM as Fine.

Lex: “Clark’s specialty is barging in and then making you feel like you’re the one who should apologize.” *nods*

*I've just realized that the commenting on my own notes approach to episode reviews is clearly influenced by the awesome and entertaining Season 7 BtVS reviews by [livejournal.com profile] earth_vexer.*

Supernatural ‘Devil’s Trap’ 1:22

I love how the previouslies are basically fanvids! This makes “previously on” sequences so much more interesting. I demand all shows start doing this now!! Ahem, anyway…

I’m consistently impressed by how Supernatural avoids being completely predictable and how it can surprise me. I gasped in shock multiple times throughout the episode. Not that the episode didn’t have its predictable aspects, but overall a very satisfying season finale.

One of the things I love about the show is that the characters aren’t always doing completely stupid things (Hey there Smallville, you should take note of this!). When the boys find their dad, they apply what they’ve learned (the demon(s) can possess people) and check to see if their dad’s possessed. Very smart. I love that it doesn’t work, and their dad is possessed.

Unlike Clark Kent who forgets what his dad was all about, Dean and Sam actually use their memories and determine that their dad is possessed. That sequence was excellent. I loved how the brothers and we the viewers were drawn in by the dad’s congratulatory words to his sons. It was exactly what Dean, Sam and we want to hear: that he’s proud of them. Because it’s wish-fulfillment it takes a few minutes for the realization to set in. I think that Dean and I realized at the same time that it wasn’t really his dad. Suddenly the difference in his cadence becomes obvious when he’s trying to get Dean to give him the gun.

Kudos to Jenson Ackles’ delivery of “You’re not my dad.” That was an incredibly powerful line. And it’s nice to see the bond between Sam & Dean pay off with Sam putting his trust in Dean.

Once possessed!dad has control there’s a little too much talking (my theory is if you’re evil, you’d start with the killing asap), fortunately it leads up to an awesome dilemma. I really liked that Sam & Dean have to shoot (and kill) their dad to kill the demon. And it’s even better that they couldn’t do it. The whole thing works nicely as a metaphor for growing up and learning when to reject your parents and when to embrace them.

And those final moments? I was reminded of dark!Willow controlling the truck in Two to Go. Their car being smashed by the truck is a very good shocking moment. I pondered whether the multiple shots of the crash (overlapping editing) are effective and have determined that I think they are. It draws out the shock and increases the intensity of the collision, especially when the multiple violent shots are contrasted with the black screen immediately after the crash. I adore that this all happens while CCR’s “Bad Moon on the Rise” plays. And those last few shots of the song playing and surveying the bloodied and unconscious Winchesters? Awesome.

I did see Mission: Impossible III with a couple of friends and it was a fun time. There was a lot of Tom Cruise but I was entertained when they played “We Are Family” when he was running (I leaned over to my friend and said “Well, Tom is very very gay.”) Philip Seymour Hoffman was excellent, as was John Rhys Meyers!

Something that interested me: Laurence Fishbourne’s character says something about an invisible man. And then says: “The Wells version not the Ellison one.” I was the only one in the threatre who chucked. But upon further thought, I realized that I only know about Ralph Ellison’s novel because of my American Lit class. And I’ve also studied H.G. Wells in university. In high school most Canadians don’t read a lot of American or British novels, the only American one I recall studying is “To Kill a Mockingbird” and the British one (although there is lots of Shakespeare) is “Lord of the Flies”. Other than that it’s Canadian, ie. Mordecai Richler and Margaret Laurence. I even recall reading bad Canadian poetry. After being one of the few people in the theatre who got the reference, I suspect I am even more of a book geek than I’d realized. Yay, my English degree is useful, I can now get jokes no one else does!

Not really retuning to talking about the movie: It was almost worth it just for the completely awesome trailers. We saw Superman Returns (I’m so excited for Kevin Spacey as Lex), X-Men: The Last Stand, Pirates of the Caribbean and Pulse (Kristin Bell, aka Veronica Mars, stars). One of my friends, who’s a big comic book fan, got so very excited for the first two that it was contagious! And she said she’d see Pulse with me, although I’m not sure if I’ll be able to handle it. I get way too scared to watch too many scary movies.

Before I finish this rambly post, I wanted to give people a heads up that I’m planning another music post for this weekend. They’ll be more Arcade Fire and another band/musician (*is mysterious*). I thought I’d see if anyone had any other requests. I love sharing things that make me happy so if there’s something you want to hear more of, let me know!! *g*

Hey, there.
Just a fly by post to hug you. I wish I could read these tv reviews of yours, but you're so far ahead on most shows than us in the IK, they are all spoilers :(

[identity profile] cordelianne.livejournal.com 2006-05-06 07:21 am (UTC)(link)
Hey! *g* I wish we could all be on the same schedule for tv shows! Some American shows have delayed airings in Canada but it happens rarely because most of our stations are from the U.S., and we're not normally as behind as in the UK or Australia and NZ. Of course, it tends to mean that our culture is basically American. We only have a few of our own shows that draw a large audience.

Oh, but I do know that in Canada we're way behind the UK on Coronation Street. One of my friends gets tapes from relatives back in Scotland so she's up-to-date.

*hugs*

“And not knowing who you’re in bed with can lead to a very uncomfortable awakening.” I love that the slashy subtext just gets more intense!

That subtext was so blatant. I laughed and laughed.

[identity profile] cordelianne.livejournal.com 2006-05-06 07:31 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel like Smallville's embraced the subtext and is having fun with it. Because it starting to feel less and less like subtext and more like text. :)

[identity profile] crazydiamondsue.livejournal.com 2006-05-06 02:07 pm (UTC)(link)
“Oh crap. I’m shaking from the opening.” I know! I ran in to tell Caza (who had already seen it) "Most intense teaser ever!" Dayum!

I loved when Veronica said: Elementary, my dear Wallace. Hee! And I love that he responded, "How long you been waiting to say that?"

That was the only thing I've watched so far (other than the Lex/Brainiac scene in SV), so I can't comment further. But go you with the notes!! And new music - big yay!

Remind me the next time we're on IM to tell you about the reactions from my friend watching S-1 of BtVS. It's fascinating. Really.

[identity profile] cordelianne.livejournal.com 2006-05-06 07:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Veronica and Wallace have such a great dynamic! I'd much prefer more Wallace & Veroinca scenes to Wallace & Jackie ones, not that I hate her or anything, I'm just more interested in the friendship.

I've always loved the slashy Lex/Clark subtext (I got hooked when Clark said re: Lex "Our relationship is ... complicated"), but now I'm all about Lex/Brianiac!! So very fun.

I'd planned to do the music post today but I got called into work so it'll probably be sometime tomorrow. But yay for music!

I'm so excited to hear about your friend's reaction to S-1 of BtVS!! It's neat to hear people's thoughts when they first experience the show. I basically watched the first 5 seasons in less than a month so it was very condensed for me.

[identity profile] electricalgwen.livejournal.com 2006-05-06 02:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Ooh! Music! (Sadly, I don't get any of the shows *sigh*.)

I had a four-hour drive last night to pick up SO and carload of stuff, then drove back this morning. Took along my iPod (transmitting to car stereo) and enjoyed your last playlist immensely! I think "Amaze Me", "Such Great Heights" and "Lodestar" are currently my favourites.

So, I'm likely to enjoy anything you want to recommend.

[identity profile] cordelianne.livejournal.com 2006-05-06 07:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Sadly, I don't get any of the shows *sigh*. Yeah, [livejournal.com profile] vampirefever who's also in the UK has the same problem or if she gets the shows, the episodes air significantly later than they do here. Why can't we all get all the same shows at the same time?!

Oh, I'm delighted to hear you enjoyed the playlist because those are some of my favourite songs! Those are great songs to that you're enjoying!

I probably won't get the music stuff posted till tomorrow because I unexpectedly had to go to work. Oh! And I will be posting those character meme thingy on your lj in a little bit! :)

how could anyone believe that Jonathan – he of the sanctimonious speeches - would suggest murder.

Hee! I had the same thought. And I know he was looking out for his own self-interest, but the fact that Lionel had to point out to Clark that Jonathan would never tell him to murder anyone makes Clark look even more simple than usual.

I like Supernatural's "previouslies" too. They're very clever and fandom-y.

I completely missed Fishburne's "invisible man" line in the movie, but I would have laughed too. Anytime a customer at the bookstore asks for The Invisible Man, I have to ask "Wells or Ellison?" (and half the time they don't know!). The Ellison version is on a lot of school reading lists around here, and I think we actually sell more of it.

[identity profile] cordelianne.livejournal.com 2006-05-06 07:55 pm (UTC)(link)
but the fact that Lionel had to point out to Clark that Jonathan would never tell him to murder anyone makes Clark look even more simple than usual.
I know! Clark's not supposed to be that stupid, so I'm concerned that they're making him like that just for the plot. Considering that on Supernatural they dealt with an incredibly similar issue without the character becoming idiots, I think they should be able to do the same thing on Smallville.

I completely missed Fishburne's "invisible man" line in the movie, but I would have laughed too. Ahh, it did go by quickly. I'm very good at noticing that kind of detail but not big plot points (which is probably better in a movie like MI-III!).

I'm very amused that customer's don't know which The Invisible Man, considering the topics are very different! I can see it being on school lists in the US, since it was something we read in my American Lit course. I suspect more people associate the Well's version with the movie than the book.

That filled me with glee, even if the remainder of the episode didn't. It felt like it was really hard to top the intensity of the teaser. Although the information Keith and Veronica were digging up felt like old news because of my own and other people's speculation.

Or maybe... Lynn Echolls isn't dead! Hee. I have no idea.
You know, I often wonder if she's not. They kept emphasizing her death in that Aaron Echolls expose show, which makes me consider if it means anything. You never know with that show!

And the way he was lounging in the chair while talking to Lex... Very nice. *g* Oh yes, he lounges very well, doesn't he? *g*

Not able to see and comment on VM until tomorrow night. Boo-hoo!

And you know I'm big with the Scrubs love. My problem is with NBC and how they've mistreated the show. Moving it all over the schedule, never announcing that it would be back when it was delayed this season - they acted like it was the red-headed step-child. I know that some folks think that because of the wackiness or imagination sequences or whatever that's it a silly sophomoric show. And they couldn't be more wrong. I really wish it would start to get more of the respect it deserves.

Supernatural was an awesome season ender. Let's hope it wasn't the series ender.

And Smallville...what can I say? Fine would've played that much better. Not so heavy handed. And Clark and Martha both should have known better. And the upside, we got to see JM drink again, do the head thing and exchange banter/slashy innuendos with Lex. I guess I'll forgive the producers.

[identity profile] cordelianne.livejournal.com 2006-05-06 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Hopefully you didn't see any VM spoilers! *tries to cover them*

I agree that NBC hasn't treated the show well. It's rarely promoted and the moving it around doesn't help increase the audience. I think most people have the wrong idea of what Scrubs is about and don't realize that it's a well-done, smart show. NBC certainly hasn't done a good job of changing those perceptions. It would go so well with on the same night as My Name is Earl and the Office, because all those shows are off-beat in their own ways.

I'm feeling pretty confident that Supernatural will be back. I suspect that Everwood and Veronica Mars are the shows more likely not to survive the merger. *worries*

I'd forgotten about JM drinking! *sigh* He did have some good moments - yay for his banter with Lex - even if the episode was badly conceived.

[identity profile] drakontaskyria.livejournal.com 2006-05-06 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
NBC is in some trouble, especially after losing a few of their hits and the ones they have left are getting older. They can't survive on My Name is Earl and The Office alone. That is why they should have been nurturing the shows they do have and promoting them better and building an audience. *cough-Scrubs-cough* I mean really - isn't this what network execs are supposed to know about?! Sigh.

The pretty boys from SN have been getting a lot of fangirl attention. I think CW will bring them back. I hope so. VM was trotted out as one of the critical hits they have access to, but if the ratings haven't improved... I think that a lot of the problem was sophomore slump and inconsistency this season. With all the shows leaving and the somewhat low caliber of many of the remaining ones - Top Model, anyone? - they might try to keep a low-rated, but well-reviewed show around. Hopefully, VM will come back and do better next year. I don't watch Everwood, so no info or feelings on how that will go.

[identity profile] cordelianne.livejournal.com 2006-05-06 10:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm often baffled by the decisions of network execs because it's so clear sometimes that they don't know what they're doing. For example, I don't think it's smart to switch air times and dates around with the frequency that they do, because people are creatures of habit. Notice that CSI is one of the most popular shows and it's always Thursdays at 9pm? If you're going to switch days, then do something like they did with BtVS in season two, have a two day event with a cliffhanger in the first part to draw people to the next day.

Also, I recall when theWB announced their schedule for this season and they'd paired Gilmore Girls with Supernatural and Smallville with Everwood. I know they wanted established shows on the very competitive Thursday night, but I would have taken the risk and put Supernatural after Smallville immediately. Smallville is the perfect lead-in for it, and Supernatural had success written all over it. I wasn't surprised when they moved Supernatural into the time slot, it just seems silly to not have done that immediately. See, they should hire me!!!

I have more confidence that VM will be returning than about Everwood. VM is well-loved within the industry and by the programmer for the CW. Unfortunately Everwood has always been a quiet show that doesn't get a lot of buzz which doesn't help it in times like these. I worry it will just be passed over, even though it's such a great show.

[identity profile] drakontaskyria.livejournal.com 2006-05-07 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
CSI started out on Friday nights I believe and had a respectable audience for a 'cult' show on a lousy night for viewing - only Saturday gets less respect from programmers. But it was a good show, had fans and - of course - Jerry Bruckheimer. It got moved - mid-first season, I believe - as an alternative to Must See Tv. And it worked. NBC's Thursday was starting to get stale and this was the exact opposite of what it offered. Putting Without a Trace on after it a couple of seasons later? Good choice. And, of course, as you pointed out THEY LEFT IT IN THE SAME SLOT! Sigh. Yes, people come home after work and want to play 'where is my favorite show?' *rolls eyes*

And while I understand the temptation to pair an old and a new show together to help the new one, they have to have something in common. Buffy used to follow 7th Heaven! Now, there might have been some crossover, but not THAT much. You're right. I would have put Smallville and Supernatural together from the beginning. But then, I'm not an idiot. (or much of one, anyway...*g*) Execs live in such a rarefied atmosphere of other execs, focus groups, etc that I doubt that they have a really good idea of what folks want. When they do hit it, it's more luck than skill.

[identity profile] cordelianne.livejournal.com 2006-05-07 03:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, that's interesting about CSI. I wasn't aware of its history. I sometimes think execs have no patience, so they'll move a show to a time slot and then not leave it there long enough to build an audience. Obviously CSI really draws the audience in - the way some shows sadly never will - but I'm sure that leaving it in the time slot helped those numbers. Some of the most success shows - in terms of popularity - were slow builds (eg. Seinfeld, Everybody Loves Raymond).

I'm baffled when networks don't match appropriate show together. Buffy after 7th Heaven is pretty funny. Could there be more different shows? They continue to pair Everwood with 7th Heaven which makes sense in theory, except that Everwood's in a whole different league that 7th Heaven; it's actually a smart and complex show that doesn't suggest there's one right answer for everything (nor is it a "Christian" show). However, I can understand the Everwood & 7th Heaven pairing because they're both family shows and, on the surface, have some similarities. I'd rather Everwood was paired with Gilmore Girls because I think they're a better fit, but at least it's not as idiotic as airing According to Jim before Commander in Chief like ABC does/did.

I think you're right that execs just live in their own bizarre world. Hollywood seems to be very insular in many ways.

::peaks out through fingers::
Yay for new music! :) Something Canadian would be awesome, I love Canadian music, though I fear at my dial-up speed it might prove tricky with the downloading. But that's my woe, not yours :)
Do they still have Phil Keoghan presenting the Amazing Race? Or is that the Canadian version you're referring to?

[identity profile] cordelianne.livejournal.com 2006-05-06 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
The spoiler quotient is so very high in these posts, so I hope you're not seeing anything!

I'm planning the music post for tomorrow. I'll definitely include lots of Canadian music! It feels like there's been a creative resurrengence in the Canadian Indie scene which is awesome for music fans! I hope the dial-up doesn't prove too troublesome or time-consuming. I can always re-load the links when you're back on faster internet service. *g*

I wish we had a Canadian version of the Amazing Race because I so want to participate! I'm convinced that my brother and I would be a great team: we both have excellent senses of direction and are good with maps, have lots of endurance and don't give up, and he could do all the things I wouldn't do (like eat gross things or something really scary). This is the one with Phil Keoghan, who I just adore! His reactions to the contestants are always fun.

And Tony Leung is beautiful in that icon!!

He is isn't he? It's by [livejournal.com profile] ladybanteerin if you wish to snag though the post I took it from had many beautiful other ones :)
Yay for resurging Canadian indie music. That's good to hear. I wholeheartedly agree in having a strong local music scene. It's just the only place you can reflect back what's important to you as a city/people/nation etc. But anyway...
This is the one with Phil Keoghan, who I just adore! His reactions to the contestants are always fun.
Ha! The reason I asked about PK is that he's actually a NZ-er. I only know him from kids' TV when I was quite young, so it's so funny to see people using icons and gushing over him. Heee! He used to have this funny sticky-up haircut like everyone did in the late 80s, early 90s. :D

[identity profile] cordelianne.livejournal.com 2006-05-07 03:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I'll have to check out those icons! Thanks!

It's just the only place you can reflect back what's important to you as a city/people/nation etc. Such a good point! It's one of the few ways that people can still express that in our increasingly corporate homogenized existence. I love pop culture, but it's also wonderful to listen to something that's more meaningful/relevant to one's specific experiences.

He used to have this funny sticky-up haircut like everyone did in the late 80s, early 90s. Isn't it awesome to see someone who you remember as dorky, and who's now popular and even a sex symbol? I'm giggling over the sticky-up haircut!! I didn't know that PK is a NZ-er! I'd actually wondered once if he was Canadian once because his accent reminds me of how a lot of Canadians working in the U.S. sound. So - in my mind - that makes sense he's a NZ-er because he must be adopting a similar accent.
