AtS Fic: Fries with That (Connor, G, drabble)

HAPPY BIRTHDAY stoney321!!!!!!!!!!! I hope you are having a wonderful day!!!! You are such a smart, funny and fun person. I'm so happy that I got to meet you recently. *g* Since I can't give you Will Ferrell or Sparrington lovin', I've written you a Connor drabble because I know that you love Connor (me too!).

This is set late season 3, around the time Connor's just arrived in L.A.


Fries with That

“Do you want fries with that?” The girl with a net over her hair taps her fingers on the box that beeps when it’s poked.

He’s exposed under the bright lights. Connor spins, sizing up his surroundings.

“Sir? Sir?” She's looking at him the same way that vampire does. Connor looks down, then jerks his head up again. “You okay?”

He nods. His eyes dart around the room.

“O-kay.” She collects some of the crumpled bills and coins he’s dropped on the counter, and pushes the remaining money towards him along with his tray. “Take the fries. You need them.”

Oh, I love all the moments that show just how wrong this new world is to Connor, all the little expectations and customs that pass by unnoticed in the day-to-day business of life. It's also so nice to see this little moment of...something, connection or kindness however brief, with a stranger. Awwwww, adjusting!Connor!

Thanks for your lovely feedback! I'm very fond of Connor generally and am particularly intrigued by his initial dealings and experiences in LA. It's so foreign to him. For this I like him experiencing both the strangeness and harshness but also the kindness that can exist in human interactions, even between strangers. *g*

Thanks!! I'm really pleased that you say that, because I really wanted to explore - albeit briefly - how foreign LA is to and how alone he is (but also not as alone as he thinks he is). *g*

Really brilliant grasp of Connor and his uncertainty with the world. Poor guy! As ever you say so much with the emotion and sense of the drabble, rather than with just the 100 words.
