Part of the time while I was away from LJ, I was visiting with my parents. During that visit I showed my mom just how fun youtube is – she had gone to the site before but didn’t really understand how it worked, so I gave her a bit of a tour. I thought you’d all enjoy the links, and also potentially be amused at what I showed to my mom.
Cordelianne’s Mom Discovers Youtube
1. Pop Goes My Heart from Music and Lyrics. How can you go wrong starting with this hysterical faux 80s video with Hugh Grant and Jason Street actor (ie. from Friday Night Lights)?! Mom loved the movie (and had recommended it to me) so was pleasantly surprised to discover that we could watch the video.
2. Then we had to watch a clip from the Friday Night Lights pilot episode – Explosions in the Sky’s ‘Remember Me As a Time of Day’. My excuse for showing mom this was to show her Jason Street actor as Jason Street, but really it’s cause I’m totally in love with this show and this clip has some of the gorgeous music from FNL. I suspect I enjoyed this more than mom.
3. To make up for my FNL promoting, I impressed mom with Lazy Sunday. She loved it and laughed multiple times throughout especially at them discussing the best map options. I’ve seen that SNL short so many times, and it still entertains me.
4. To give her an example of what everyone’s been watching recently I showed her Alanis Morissette’s ‘My Humps’ video parody. Mom was amused until I explained that it’s actually a real song – and then she a little appalled which made me remember that funny “My Humps” scene in Blades of Glory. So we watched the Blades of Glory trailer.
5. Men skating naturally reminded me of the most awesome skating routine ever: Skating Cowboys (to ‘A Little Less Conversation’). Mom really loved it and agreed that it’s the gayest thing ever.
6. I figured the only logical next vid (well, in my head anyway!) is a clip of Alec Baldwin being so very funny on 30 Rock: Why Alec Baldwin won the Golden Globe. Mom was amused, and it possibly led to me talking at length about why 30 Rock is so brilliant – poor mom.
7. When searching various tv shows to see clips, we came across a lot of fanvids and I wanted mom to actually see a good one. But the only one I could think of is the BtVS fanvid The Song of the Count. Yes, that’s the one with the Sesame Street song set to clips of Buffy and Spike having sex and, yes, that’s what I showed my mom. She was very impressed and amused – it really is an extremely well-done vid.
8. The last things we watched together were those awesome fake trailers: Brokeback to the Future and Titanic: The Sequel.
All of this left mom really impressed with the quality of work people are producing, and now she understands why people like youtube. Although I did tell her that I’m normally too lazy to search youtube myself and just enjoy links people post on their LJs – and then realized I should pay that back and post these links to my LJ!
Anyway, I hope you are all doing well! *hugs*
