Hello all!! It has been a stressful last couple of weeks in [livejournal.com profile] cordelianne-land. It’s been mostly work stress and it should be over soon. I built up enough overtime that I took the day off yesterday and I basically accomplished NOTHING (well there was some LJ & fic reading and tv watching, but no apartment cleaning or laundry done). I didn’t even get enough sleep. *shakes head at self* I think my stress level inspired Tuesday’s Angel & Wes story so at least the stress has inspired some productivity!

So to ignore the stress and focus on more HAPPY things I offer you, or things that are making me happy:

1. She’s the Man: It’s the Amanda Bynes (yes the Amanda Bynes from What a Girl Wants and the tv show What I Like About You) movie that’s a teen version of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night. Bynes plays Viola, the one who disguises herself as her brother. I have a huge weakness for teen movies, and an even bigger weakness for modernizations of Shakespeare. Throw in any form of gender bending and I’m there! Seriously. I actually will be going to the theatre to see it on Saturday.

2. Veronica Mars returns to its Tuesday 9pm timeslot on April 11th: Okay I’m not sure how happy I am about this (especially since Wednesday night is the better night for my friends and I to watch the show together), but I’m trying to see this as positive because it won’t be up against Lost anymore. It’ll just be up again House and Scrubs, at least Supernatural will have already moved to Thursdays at 9pm (on March 30th.)

Why would Keith immediately go to Lamb when he finds out about the explosives in Terrence Cook’s car hangar? I understand that the law is very important to Keith, but hasn’t he learned yet that Lamb isn’t exactly the best Sherriff? Also why didn’t he at least do some investigation BEFORE telling Lamb, instead of AFTER informing him? That just seems silly to me.

The episode was fun to watch, but the MOTW didn’t really engage me. I didn’t hate the episode, because I always enjoy the show but when I think back to it I can’t really remember what happened.

Definitely good VM news: The actors who played George Michael and Maeby on Arrested Development are guest starring next week!!! VM has definitely become the place for actors from my favourite no-longer-airing shows to guest star!

3. Bones and David Boreanaz: I re-watched the yummy DB parts from last week’s fantastic episode because my friend hasn’t seen it so I had to show her!! I wish that Fox wouldn’t air the episodes out of order because this week's episode was actually supposed to air earlier and it is a bit of a let down after last week’s AMAZING episode. My favourite scene was Booth offering to tell Brennan about his past as Angelus a sniper, and the horrible things that he’s done, and her declining. DB continues to impress me with his acting (as well as his hotness) and this was a fabulous instance of how good a serious actor he can be.

I have read some complaints about Brennan’s inconsistent pop culture knowledge, which is valid since it tends to be all over the place. However, I have at least one friend who has almost no pop culture knowledge but does have areas of interest that she does know a lot about. So Brennan's characterization doesn't seem that weird to me. I like Brennan’s inconsistency because it makes her seem more real to me; she occasionally will know pop culture but even with some of the more obvious stuff she’s completely unaware (which is totally like my friend!).

There was a neat Angel connection in this episode: David Denman, who played the fiance was Skip on Angel. He's also Roy (Pam's fiance - clearly he's a fiance kind of guy) on The Office.

4. In one week James Marsters returns to Smallville: He’ll be back on Thursday, March 30th at 8pm on the WB.

5. The new album, "Fox Confessor Brings the Flood" by Neko Case: It's SO good!!

I would love to have included J.August Richards being back on television but I feel like he has a less of a role on Conviction than he did during parts of Angel seasons. And on Angel he could at least kick ass. I'm still “watching” the show (ie. not really paying attention until JAR is on the screen) but I don’t recommend tuning in.

Other than my outing to see She’s the Man, I’m planning to keep my weekend void of socializing and instead I will write fic, go shopping, write fic, read fic, and catch up on tv watching. Chocolate may be involved as well.

ETA: This just cheered up and made me cry happy tears: Fandom is ...

ETA #2: More good news: Bones is renewed for a second season!!!

My thoughts exactly. Perhaps it was to ensure more screentime for Lamb? [/cynical]

The episode was fun to watch, but the MOTW didn't really engage me.
I still read MOTW as "Monster of the Week". Buffy is in my brain and will not leave. Not exactly complaining, though. *g*

I didn't realize they were doing that, but it's clear now that you mention it. Booth shouldn't have healed that quickly.

Yes. And yes. And I loved all the tunnels! It was like BtVS and Ats all over again. *g*

Can you tell I watch television through Buffy-tinted glasses? :D

My thoughts exactly. Perhaps it was to ensure more screentime for Lamb? [/cynical] I think you're probably right. I really do enjoy any time Lamb is on the screen but they could have incorporated him in a more interesting way (eg. he and Keith could have been following similar leads but drawing different conclusions).

I still read MOTW as "Monster of the Week". Buffy is in my brain and will not leave. Not exactly complaining, though. *g* I still think "Monster of the Week" and have to remind myself that the M is for Mystery (hee!).

Yes. And yes. And I loved all the tunnels! It was like BtVS and Ats all over again. *g* Yes! I can't believe I forgot about the tunnels, I really enjoyed that. I found the tunnel-city fascinating. Poor DB back in tunnels again!

Can you tell I watch television through Buffy-tinted glasses? :D That's my favourite way to watch tv!! :)

Okay, I didn't know that but it makes sense because it seemed like Brennan's characterization was closer to what I saw at the beginning of the season than to what it was last week. If that makes sense.

My favourite scene was Booth offering to tell Brennan about his past as Angelus a sniper

Hee! So true. I was having Angelus flashbacks during that scene.

David Denman, who played the fiance was Skip on Angel

You have all kinds of fun facts! He looked a lot less imposing here than he did as Skip.:)

it seemed like Brennan's characterization was closer to what I saw at the beginning of the season than to what it was last week. If that makes sense. That makes a lot of sense! She was much more in the role of academic, impartial observer whereas she's been a bit more relaxed recently and she even danced last week. I also feel that after last week Brennan and Booth would have had been closer, and he would have been MUCH more upset about her running after the guy (when they're first in the tunnels).

You have all kinds of fun facts! He looked a lot less imposing here than he did as Skip.:) hee! I love to recognize actors from other tv shows, and it's even more fun to connect it all back to BtVS/AtS. And he's so much less imposing not in the demon costume, his voice even sounds different.

Hee, hee...I saw the coming attractions to She's the Man with my friend at the theater. I leaned over to her about 30 seconds in and asked: "Is that based on the Shakespeare?"

Yes, Keith should definitely have looked into things before going to Lamb. *sigh*

Huh! I didn't know that the Bones eps were out of order. Unless they say something, I usually assume that it's not a week between eps cuz otherwise, yeah...he healed way too fast. They did such a good job of making his injuries and reactions realistic that I assumed (hoped) they wouldn't have him healed in a week.

Yes, Keith should definitely have looked into things before going to Lamb. *sigh* [livejournal.com profile] earth_vexer suggested above that it was likely done to get more screen time for Lamb. I LOVE Lamb (well, I love to hate him), and I suspect she's correct. Keith's move doesn't seem very smart, and we're not given a good enough reason why Keith wouldn't have done ANY investigation into the matter before going to Lamb who Keith knows is a bad and lazy detective.

I read someone saying that Bones was being aired out of order, so when I was checking out the episode title at tv.com (http://www.tv.com/bones/show/33332/episode_listings.html) I noted that this episode was #11 in production but actually aired #16. So it should have aired many weeks BEFORE last week. It makes me feel a lot better to know that the producers aren't completely horrible at continuity, realism (in terms of injuries) and character development, rather it's the network airing episodes out of order ... again.
[identity profile] drakontaskyria.livejournal.com wrote:

That's the main damn problem with a series that's mostly standalone eps. Whatever internal continuity there is, because there's no continued next week line, is lost when the network decides to air eps in an arbitrary fashion. And we all know that network execs have no common sense, so...
[identity profile] cordelianne.livejournal.com wrote:

I have such a love for continuity so I wouldn't be a very good network exec.

And we all know that network execs have no common sense, so...
Agreed. It's often baffling to see the things that they do which are seemingly to help a show but only seem to hinder it (ie. continual moving of time slots).

scheduling problems
I broke down and subscribed to TV Guide -- the way they keep switching show schedules around, I think they got bribed by the TV Guide people to build their readership. (But I like the articles, anyway.)

Re: scheduling problems
The switching around of a show's time slot can sometimes hinder a show's ratings because only the loyal fans will follow. However Bones has done well - or better - and it's been moved twice.

Good idea on getting TV Guide. I have a guide with my PVR (the Tivo-like device), and I obsessively check stuff online so I have managed not to subscribe to TV Guide.

No Tivo for me, but there are all sorts of guides on the internet I could use. I just like being able to pick it up and take a quick look ... plus, I really do like the articles. As if I didn't have enough to read!

There is something lovely about actually having something tangible in front of you to flip through. Especially if there's good articles.

As if I didn't have enough to read! I know! I'm always a few days behind on fic reading on LJ, let alone other reading. Although, it is kind of fun to have too much good stuff to enjoy.

The funny thing is I've heard that the George Michael and Maeby actors are going to be playing college students!!! I've been hoping that they will be dating on VM. I have my fingers crossed that George Michael's character isn't bad because I don't want to see the adorable George Michael being horrible.

I have such a thing for watching tv shows in order that it drives me crazy when they move episodes around. At least what they're doing with Bones isn't as bad as what they did to Firefly.

I'm always amazed that Arrested Development survived almost 3 years (sort of) on Fox considering their horrible track record. I figured that Ron Howard must have held something over the Fox execs.

I saw She's the Man last Thursday. I liked it because I am extremely cheesy. What did you think?
The VM move is odd, because I've been whining all season about VM, Bones, and Lost all being on at the same time and my DVR only allows me to record two shows at once. They just moved Bones and I was all happy about that and now I have to choose between VM, Scrubs, and House! ::pouts::
I totally agree with your theory on Brennan's lack of pop-culture knowledge, but who doesn't know about Clue? Weird.
Yay! for JM and Neko Case!

I had such a blast watching She's the Man, I'm glad to hear that you liked it too. I am also extremely cheesy and really like that genre. Between my friends and I, we laughed through the entire movie (sometimes AT the dialogue). I'm thinking of posting a "review" of the movie to remind people that I watch movies made for pre-teen girls. hee!

They just moved Bones and I was all happy about that and now I have to choose between VM, Scrubs, and House! ::pouts:: eek! That's no good, I would have trouble choosing. Do you have a friend who could record one of the shows for you? I have a DVR, but I also have time-shifting, which I'm guessing you don't have. Of course that just means I follow MORE tv shows (I can record 4 shows in the same time slot because of the time-shifting).

but who doesn't know about Clue? Weird. It is weird, especially since it's a popular board game.

Hee, me too. I'm sure I will be 65 and still heading out to see the teen flicks. ::shrugs::

you have the ability to record 4 shows at once? I'm so jealous! I usually just watch one of the shows and record the other two, but I don't like feeling like I must be home at certain time to catch a show, ya know? But yeah, DVRs really do bring out the show slutting in me. There are definitely more than a few that I probably wouldn't watch if it weren't for the magic of my cable box. :)

Hee, me too. I'm sure I will be 65 and still heading out to see the teen flicks. ::shrugs:: I'm with you on that! The older I get, the more I enjoy them.

I can actually only record 2 shows at once, and if I'm doing that I can't watch another programme that's airing (I can watch a pre-recorded one though). The reason I can record 4 shows that air in the same time slot is because of time-shifting. With that feature I get stations from a variety of time zones, so I always have at least two different time options of when to record a show (ie. at 8pm or 11pm).

but I don't like feeling like I must be home at certain time to catch a show, ya know? Even though I'm a huge tv addict, I also don't like feeling I have to be home for a programme. The only show I regularly watch when it airs is Veronica Mars.
