cordelianne: (S/X "What?" (Xander checking Spike out.))
Tonight I have thoughts about the Smallville season finale and fanfic recs!!!

Smallville 'Vessel' 5:22

I ended up watching this with a co-worker which was kind of embarrassing because she got to see me flail about JM and giggle at any possible slashy Clark/Lex moment. Fortunately I think she was entertained and didn't find me (too) crazy. I scribbled down a few thoughts while I watched the episode:

- I wonder if JM gave Michael Rosenbaum tips on how to act like there's pain in his head? All those clutching head scenes reminded me of when Spike's pain chip went off.
- The thing I love about Smallville is the special effects (and Lex, Chloe, Lionel and JM/Fine), and the season finales always have wicked cool effects. [I wrote that at the beginning of the episode and I didn't end up being impressed by the effects this time. I did like that it was a more intimate episode, in some ways, with a focus on the Clark/Lex dynamic.]
- Oh, I like Tom Welling's longer hair. [Clearly my thoughts are very deep.]
- A vessel to inhabit. teeeeheeee [I believe I was reading a slashy subtext into that.]
- Hoping for evil Lex. It's so fun when he's evil!!
- So I guess SV's coming down on the nurture side of the nature vs. nurture argument.
- Lionel re: Lex Dark force at work inside him. [Ah, the slashy subtext!!!]
- JM!!!! [hahahaha, that's all I wrote about him. I really was too excited about JM playing evil and wearing a suit to write anything coherent.]
- Chloe: It's like Y2K on acid. [Afterwards a friend called me and we were talking about how quickly everything devolves into chaos and whether it would happen that quickly. Her: It'd probably take 6-8 hours for that kind of chaos and violence to develop. Me: That's what happened on the show, except they skipped the 6-8 hours.]
- Chloe & Clark kiss!!!! Yay! I'm fond of them together.
- Lex: I thought you had a strong core. But you lie all the time. [I can't recall the entire quote, but I really liked that stand off between Clark & Lex. My friend pointed out that Superman can't lie so it's not good that they keep having Clark lie on SV. Hopefully this'll be motivation for him to re-examine his approach.]
- Good acting on MR's part.
- Bad stock footage!!!! heee!
- Lex is wearing the Leather Coat of Evil!!!
- I love the badly done apocalyptic backdrop when Lex and Lana are kissing.
- CLIFFHANGER!!!!!

So a pretty fun episode, that leaves lots to be resolved next season. I loved the high Lex content and possessed!evil!Lex is awesome!

When I first started reading fanfic, it was for Spike/Buffy (and Wes/Lilah) but I quickly found Spike/Xander and fell in love with the pairing. Since coming to LJ, I've been having a blast reading lots of different pairings and discovering so many wonderful authors. However, I still get such a thrill when I read a good Spike/Xander fic. There's lots of awesome ones out there, and I wanted to share a few of the current ones that are making me all giddy. If you don't normally read the Spander, these are the ones to read:

* [livejournal.com profile] entrenous88's Lovers' Drive - Summary: Spike does grab Xander and Willow from the high school in s3’s “Lovers’ Walk”; from there on, things turn out differently.

* [livejournal.com profile] reremouse's The Last Days Of Rome - This is an 11 part story which is being updated daily! Summary/Warning: A Spuffy here, a Xuffy there - here a Spander, there a Spander, everywhere a Spander Spander. Season six, resurrectibuffy, stalking. And remember kids - smoking's bad for you!

* [livejournal.com profile] trufflemouse (aka the awesome combo writing team of [livejournal.com profile] reremouse and [livejournal.com profile] savoytruffle) are posting And Let the Gods Do the Rest - It's a 14 part story that's being posted every other day! Summary: What happened in Oxnard stayed in Oxnard and so did Xander... until Buffy sent him a souled and crazy Spike to help out with a little case of Apocalypse.

* [livejournal.com profile] douse_house (aka the awesome combo writing team of [livejournal.com profile] reremouse and [livejournal.com profile] tabaqui) have completed a prologue Oxnard to Glory and now are posting new chapters to the main event SNAFU - Summary: In a universe where the Master never killed the Slayer, and the Scoobies survived graduation with a little more innocence and a lot less tarnish, Xander still never made it past Oxnard, but Cordelia got her Birthday wish.

* [livejournal.com profile] savoytruffle's Dirty Dancing Spander Style - Summary: Dirty Dancing plot + Buffyverse characters = human AU crack/charity fic

fyi: I used the authors' summaries because my descriptions would be longer than actually reading the fics!
Even though there's some author repetition (hee), I love how these stories represent a variety of different Spike/Xander fics. *basks in the awesome Spike/Xander fic*

Oh, and in my icon doesn't it look like Xander's checking Spike out?!

That episode was a lot better than any of the other Smallville episodes I've seen. But JM was really really underused. :(

I really was too excited about JM playing evil and wearing a suit to write anything coherent.
Mmm yes, the suit was good. Too bad we didn't see very much of it.

Lex is wearing the Leather Coat of Evil!!!
Hee! The coat survived NFA even if Spike didn't (except that he did)! That was totally an homage to our dear Spike. *g*

I laughed at Clark in his little diamond prison in space. Heehee. I am very bad.

The Smallville season finales are normally the better episodes. And I agree that there was a disappointing minimal use of JM. Fortunately I really like Lex so that helped!

JM in suit = good. I also noticed that his hair seemed a bit longer, which I thought looked good.

That was totally an homage to our dear Spike. *g* Yes! It totally is, and it's not insane to think that since JM is guest starring on the show (and Steven S. DeKnight, ex-Buffy/Angel writer works on the show). Oh, and of course Spike survived NFA!! ::Andrew!nod:: (Note how I'm using that now!)

I laughed at Clark in his little diamond prison in space. Heehee. I am very bad. I did too, he looked all funny and smooshy. Poor Clark, how will he escape?!

That's because he is. ;)/ You make me so happy!! *g*

Lex was good. I'm sort of getting the Lex appeal thing now. Hee. Lex appeal. ::is twelve::

I also noticed that his hair seemed a bit longer, which I thought looked good.
Yes, there was good hair.

::Andrew!nod:: (Note how I'm using that now!)
Yay! Influential is me. *g*

You make me so happy!! *g*
Or he might be just checking out Spike's shirt. Clothes are important. :P

teeeeheee! That's awesome, I'd never actually put that together before. Lex definitely has the sex appeal. *g*

Yay! Influential is me. *g*
You also keep influencing my posts because I keep commenting on my notes.

He's probably admiring how good Spike looks in the shirt, and imagining taking it off of him. Ahem. Clothes are important! :)

Heh. I doubt I'm the first person to do that. Probably just the first to comment on notes that are um, over 3 years old. :D

I often avoid stuff I wrote 3 years ago - or even a few months ago - so it's brave of you to post them, with your comments. Fortunately they've stood the test of time well.

And you're so indulgent of my Spike/Xander ramblings!! :)

Normally I do too, but I was writing a lot more back then, so it came a lot easier to me than it does now. And I do clean them up just the teensiest bit to get rid of awkward sentences and such (I am so good at writing awkward sentences) because I want them to be readable. Otherwise, I play the role of the detached reader so there's nothing to be embarrassed about. :D

hee! That is a skill I possess as well! I'm particularly good at writing words in a mixed up order if I'm in a rush.

And the detached reader role is a good pre-emptive approach. :)

Eeee! Thanks for the recs. They'll keep my S/X yearnings at a low hum, though I'm all over And Let the Gods Do the Rest. Already great :)

Yay! I'm glad you are pleased by the S/X recs. It's such good stuff! It makes me happy that there's still so many great and very different S/X fics being produced. And I'm also all over And Let the Gods Do the Rest! *checks if today's chapter is up*

Poor you, with the spoilers everywhere! Fortunately we're reaching the end of the seasons so it should mean less hiding from spoilers. *g*

Thank you so much for the mention! And most of the list, I have to catch up on. Thank goodness it's Friday. Weekend, reading ahoy!

No problem, you know how much I love your fic! It's a good list of fics to be looking forward to reading! I'm playing catch-up myself, because I really want to read Spander in Spandex and a bunch of other stuff! Yay for Weekends! *g*

Lex is wearing the Leather Coat of Evil!!!

As deep and coherent as I can be - the show is bad, but Lex so makes up for it.

Definitely!! He's the main reason I've kept watching SV. *g*

(I sadly do not have any Lex icons. *yearns for more userpic space*)

I really am excited to see them resolve this. Who will survive? Who will die?

I had an issue by how quickly people went nuts, but, oh well...

I know! I like that they left so much up in the air for next season.

Yeah, there's no way people would go crazy so fast. I recall the power blackout we had on the Eastern Seaboard a few years ago, and overall it was very calm.
