I have more drabbles!! They're both Angel and baby Connor.

For [livejournal.com profile] femmenerd who requested Daddy!Angel. Cute and funny.

Vampire Baby Blahs

Piercing cries fill the air. Angel bolts up, reaching for a weapon.

He stumbles over a teddy bear lying beside the crib. The crib is actually the source of the crying. Well, the baby inside the crib, who's wailing like the world’s ending. Or like he’s somehow thrown his bear on the floor.

Angel pauses to appreciate the arm on his boy before picking up the bear, dancing it above Connor’s scrunched up face.

“I have Teddy! You love Teddy.” Connor’s cries don’t diminish. “Or not.”

Angel sighs and picks up Connor, singing softly. The cries soften to quiet whimpers.

This is a bonus Daddy!Angel drabble which doesn't exactly fit the "cute & funny" prompt.

Falling Forward
by Cordelianne

He’s such a wee thing. Tiny but warm. Like sitting in front of a crackling fire. Connor’s warmth spreads through Angel’s body. The heartbeat quietly thuds against his chest. Soft breaths dampen his shirt.

The hands bunching up his shirt with a strong grip make it hard to imagine Connor growing. But he will. Soon he’ll be running, hockey stick in hand, heart pounding, eyes shining. Laughter ringing throughout the Hyperion.

Connor will have fun. He’ll get to play, to laugh. Angel will make sure of that. He cups Connor’s head and strokes gently.

So much to look forward to.

Thanks so much! I'm so pleased you think it captured what Angel was going through! The thing I love about writing Angel and baby Connor (or some similar variation) is how incredibly sad and poignant it is because of what happens.

That's one of the reasons I have trouble watching the baby Conner episodes. Angel was such a caring and -- lets face it -- paranoid father, just like all good first-time fathers. It hurts to see the efforts he was making, and the emotions he was going through, knowing he would end up losing so much of his son's childhood.

(Sorry if you got another reply a few minutes ago - I had weird copy/pasting mix-up.) It's such a painful and heart-breaking situation that I imagine, as a father, you must find it particularly difficult to watch.

Yeah, well -- being a dad certainly changes things in a way non-parents can't begin to understand. A great feeling, except for when it's a terrible feeling.
It's one of the reasons why older writers are usually better than younger ones -- younger people *think* they get what's going on, but certain things just can't be *got* without experience.
