I was about as rushed to get the Emmys as the host, Conan O’Brien, (I actually got caught up in training a new customer service agent at work and had to rush home worrying to myself But if I’m not home to watch the opening of the Emmy’s how will TV know that I love it?!) ... but I made it in time.
Of course, I didn’t get to rush through some of my favourite TV sets, like Conan!! The opening sequence had me totally giggling and happy – it was perfect for a TV lover. Conan starts on a plane and gets stranded on the Lost island, then goes into a hatch which takes him through the ceiling and onto Dwight’s desk in the Office (I loved the nod to the Jim/Pam relationship). He then is running along a street and I immediately thought 24!!! And I was right!!! He calls Chloe who’s on the phone (who calls Conan an idiot, because she’s Chloe!) with Jack Bauer – totally awesome!!! Conan then arrives on the House set and is “diagnosed” by House who grabs Conan’s crotch and says “what a feather in your cap” when Conan tells him he’s hosting the Emmys. Conan then becomes a cartoon on South Park and goes in the closet but runs out when Tom Cruise is in there!!! I laughed soooooo much!! He finally is on the set of Dateline NBC as a predator before making it to the Emmys. To quote Hurley “Dude, that rocked.”
Conan’s opening speech: loved his “58th and final Emmy awards”. Oooh loved the dig at NBC canceling shows. Nice references to all the movie stars getting TV shows. Ahh, the inevitable sex joke (re: Ellen Burston getting nominated for 14 seconds of screen time). Holy crap, HBO got 95 nominations, that love should have been shared with WB and Veronica Mars. Ahh, the inevitable gay joke (re: the gay mobster on the Sopranos). Blah, Two and a Half Men was the highest rated sitcom? People have no taste.
Guidelines for acceptance speeches IMO should just be “Don’t be boring.” I love why the Emmy statue is heavy “It contains the shattered dreams of 4 other people.”
I love that Conan's pointing out how NBC is totally sucking recently. Eeeee! He’s doing a version of the Music Man’s “Trouble in River City” as “Trouble in NBC”. Yay for Conan doing a song number and not being able to sing.
The Second Annual Cordelianne Emmys … oh yeah, and the Emmys is also giving out awards
First presenters Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey. She looks nice. The category is:
OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTRESS IN A COMEDY SERIES
I technically only have one nominee in common: Jaime Pressly (who I actually nominated for Best Actress in a Comedy Series – these categories are confusing). Megan Mullally (Will and Grace) won and I don’t begrudge her the award, I always enjoyed her on the show. Anyway …. my nominees:
Keiko Agena as Lane Kim, Gilmore Girls - the WB.
Kelly Bishop as Emily Gilmore, Gilmore Girls - the WB.
Melissa Peterman as Barbra Jean Hart, Reba - the WB.
Judy Reyes as Nurse Carla Espinosa, Scrubs - NBC.
Jessica Walter as Lucille Bluth, Arrested Development - Fox.
My winner is: Melissa Peterman as Barbra Jean Hart, Reba
She always made me laugh and managed to make a potentially unsympathetic character very sympathetic and so damn likeable.
Second presenters: Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Sean Hayes.
OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTOR IN A DRAMA SERIES
Only person I have in common with the Emmys is Gregory Itzin. And the Emmy winner is: Alan Alda (The West Wing) who wasn’t here – yay!! On to my nominees:
Tom Amandes as Dr. Harold Abbott Jr., Everwood - the WB.
James Callis as Dr. Gaius Baltar, Battlestar Galactica - SciFi.
Francis Capra as Eli "Weevil" Navarro, Veronica Mars - UPN.
Gregory Itzin as Charles Logan, 24 - Fox.
Chris Pratt as Harold Brighton "Bright" Abbott III, Everwood - the WB.
My winner is: Tom Amandes as Dr. Harold Abbott Jr., Everwood
I did give a hint that Dr. Abbott would win when I made the nominations, so it’s not the shocker that he won. Tom Amandes is so good at the subtle dramatic scenes and also at making me laugh because of his neurotic, obsessive moments. He’s one of the highlights of any Everwood.
- Commercials
OMG Conan has placed Bob Newhart in a sealed case with exactly 3 hours worth of air to avoid going over time. Hee! Bob Newhart has the best expression.
Ahh, Martin and Charlie Sheen are presenting. Why do people care about Charlie Sheen? They’re presenting:
OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTRESS IN A DRAMA SERIES
Wow! I actually have two nominations in common: Sandra Oh and Jean Smart. But it was Blythe Danner who won (for Huff, which she’s very good on). Huff was cancelled?! Anyway, here’s my nominees:
Sarah Drew as Hannah, Everwood - the WB.
Merrilyn Gann as Rose Abbott, Everwood - the WB.
Yunjin Kim as Sun Kwon, Lost - ABC.
Sandra Oh as Cristina Yang, Grey's Anatomy - ABC.
Jean Smart as Martha Logan, 24 - Fox.
My winner is: Sarah Drew as Hannah, Everwood - the WB.
Even though Sarah Drew was a new addition to Everwood, it felt like she’d always been there. Her relationship with Bright and dealing with his infidelity was a great storyline. She brought such heart to the show.
Yay!! I’m excited about Jaime Pressly and Jason Lee presenting together! And they’re presenting:
OUTSTANDING SUPPORTING ACTOR IN A COMEDY SERIES
Wow, I have 2 in common: Will Arnett and Jeremy Piven. And the winner is Jeremy Piven. Oh! That’s very exciting, he totally rocks on Entourage. I’m actually not unhappy about that all. However, here’s my nominees:
Will Arnett as George "Gob" Bluth II, Arrested Development - Fox.
John C. McGinley as Dr. Perry Cox, Scrubs - NBC.
Scott Patterson as Luke Danes, Gilmore Girls - the WB.
Jeremy Piven as Ari Gold, Entourage - HBO.
Ethan Suplee as Randy, My Name is Earl - NBC.
My winner is: Will Arnett as George "Gob" Bluth II, Arrested Development
He’s the reason I can’t drink anything while watching Arrested Development, because he’s so damn funny. Basically any time Gob is on screen, it’s hysterical.
And since it's a commerical break I think I'll stop Part One here.

happy

Hee. You don't need to prove your love to TV, TV already knows you love it. ;D
