In an attempt to combat my general feeling of blah and to avoid a lot of the distressing news in the world, I've watched a lot of (non-news) TV recently. Whenever it's the beginning of the season, I always get excited about new shows & new seasons, and watch a lot of first episodes just to check the shows out. So, I'm dividing up my thoughts on TV in three sections (behind the cuts are brief possible spoilery comments about The Simpsons, Bones, House, Celebrity Duets, Dancing with the Stars, Family Guy, American Dad, Til Death and Happy Hour):
Worth Watching
The Simpsons - "The Mook, the Chef, the Wife, and Her Homer" (18:1 - yes, you read that correctly, it's the 18th season!)
- Sure it wasn’t the best The Simpsons episode ever, but it was a fun one. I like that the show stays fresh by exploring the other townsfolk in Springfield. I was amused that we discover the mob boss guy (I’m too lazy to look up his name) has a son who wants to be a chef.
- My favourite episodes of the show are ones that focus on Homer, so I’m hoping they’ll still be doing that this season.
Bones - "The Boy in the Shroud" (2:3)
- I continue to really love this show, and DB just shines on it. He was so adorable with the kid. *swoons *
- I loved when Brennan was all confused by Angela and Camille bonding, and said that she “marches to the beat of a different drummer.” Also her comment about not respecting “mulling” was great!
- Hodgins and Angela are very cute.
- I loved Zack’s recited analysis of Romeo and Juliet.
- During a commercial break my friend said something about Cam, and I was all “Who’s Cam?” This is more about my bad memory than her character being forgettable.
- The Brennan and Cam (see I remember now!) scene at the end of the episode was excellent and very slashy!!
House - "Cane and Able" (3:2)
- I hated that whole storyline of Cuddy and Wilson not telling House that he’d cured the guy. Mostly because people thinking they know better and making decisions for someone else annoys me. (Even if House is really dysfunctional.)
- The whole needle & eye thing icked me out.
- The alien thing was good and creepy.
- Wow, I do not have any exciting analysis about the show! But I like it!
Fun but Not Vital to My TV Schedule
Celebrity Duets
- I was disappointed that the wrestler guy got eliminated last week instead of the gymnast girl. Oh well.
- I was trying to remember who was eliminated this week but realized that I haven’t seen that yet (it’s PVR’ed).
- All I can remember is that I was most impressed by Jai Rodriguez, and I’m sure he won’t get voted off.

Dancing with the Stars
- This is definitely better to watch with

- I was very impressed by Mario Lopez – which is an impressive statement because I never thought I’d be saying that about a Saved by the Bell alumn. Oh! I do remember other advice

Not Worth Watching (Why did I waste my time on these show?)
Family Guy - "Stewie Loves Lois" (5:1)
- I just don’t find rape funny. No matter how it’s spun or how satirizing the show is trying to be. Maybe I’m just a feminist with no sense of humour. But you know what? I don’t care. I’m continuing to be unimpressed.
American Dad - "Camp Refoogee" (2:1)
- I’m trying to pretend I never saw this episode. And will never watch that show again (no matter how amusing I normally find Roger the alien).
Til Death - "Pilot" (1:1)
- Let’s see: sexist, clichéd, boring. Definitely not watching again.
Happy Hour - "Pilot" (1:1)
- See above.
- Mood:
could be better, but not bad

Bwah!
I've been a very bad TV viewer this season. I think I've watched one episode of Bones and one of House, and that's it. Maybe when I have my TV and computer in the same room again, I'll be interested in television again. Hmm.
I hope the TV-watching was a good distraction for you. There seems to be a lot that needs distracting from right now. (Was that a grammatically correct sentence? I doubt it. Oh well. I'm sleepy.) And the icon's cute. Jon's in love with Stephen. Hee. I love those guys.
Maybe when I have my TV and computer in the same room again, I'll be interested in television again. Hmm.
heeee! I watch TV with my laptop on and in front of me - having them in the same room is definitely key!
TV's definitely been a good distraction, I'm very happy that all my favourite shows are starting up again (although it still feels so far away until VM starts on October 3rd).
Was that a grammatically correct sentence? hee! Made sense to me!
Yay to liking the icon! I love Jon and Stephen too! I'd actually meant to talk about how I've been watching both of their shows and have rediscovered how much I love the shows.
I always watch Simpsons reruns, it's amazing how compelled I am to watch that show as soon as it comes on.
I totally agree.
On House - I really liked the whole alien thing. I thought it was very unique.
I've seen only one episode of American Dad, it was one episode too many for me. Also, I had no plans to watch Til Death or Happy Hour. I'll take your word that they are crap.
I love watching the first episode of TV shows (if I have time) even if I know the show will be bad. It's also great to be able to say with confidence that people shouldn't watch them. *g*
Because of our trip we'd forgotten about "Dancing" starting so we missed the first half of the show (and the Wednesday ep too so we don't know who already left). We need to do some recording progamming this weekend. It's very confusing with shows starting so staggered rather than all within a week of one another.
This is my first time watching Dancing (it's totally Camisha's influence *g*) and I'm very entertained. Hmm, now I'm trying to remember who left ... oh! Tucker Carlson. I was pleased about that because he's a big right wing guy AND couldn't dance. Definitely my favourite so far is Mario Lopez.
The planning and recording of TV can be very time-consuming. Even though I planned out my TV watching schedule a few weeks ago, since then I've changed my mind about some shows, decided to try out others (I think I'll check out Jericho) and realized I forgot about a show I watch regularly (a fabulous Canadian sitcom called Corner Gas).
I do like the Jon Stewart & Stephen Colbert icon. It's one show I make a point of watching. That and the Steven Carrell show (The Office) and its telecast partner (My Name Is Earl.)
Anyway, belated birthday wishes to you in return, Virgo!
Dave (Mr)
I love the Office and My Name is Earl! Definitely good shows to make a point of watching!
Thanks for the belated birthday wishes! *g*
