**FYI: I am cutting for spoilers (which I always do *g*) but I rarely include significant spoilers when I talk about my TV shows.**
The Simpsons - Jazzy and the Pussycats 18:2
- Bart as amazingly good drummer? Meh. Not as good as last week.
- I'm hoping for a good Homer-centric episode next week.
The Amazing Race - Real Fast! Quack, Quack! 10:1
- I had tried to resist watching TAR this year but ... I got sucked back in! And how could I not? There's so much diversity this year. TAR has always been much better than other shows about having some diversity in the contestants and this year it's particularly impressive (very much the opposite of Survivor's creepy attempt to be diverse, or that's what they claim they're doing).
- This year there's a wonderful variety of contestants with different races, classes, abilities, sexualities, and a variety of relationships. Even the male models are recovering drug addicts - now that's interesting (and when they were introduced I thought they were dating, but they're not).
- Sadly a couple of the teams who got eliminated right away were ones I was excited about (the two Muslim guys who are friends, and the Indian-American couple who were definitely the nicest contestants).
- Fortunately it was still awesome to cheer for the single moms, the woman with the prosthetic leg (and her boyfriend) and the married couple from Kentucy (he's a coal miner) as they struggled - and succeeded - to scale the Great Wall of China.
- I'm also intrigued by the father and daughter team. When they were introduced he talked about how he loves her but he's disappointed in her, because she's a lesbian. I'm really interested to see how this plays out.
- I loved the very very gay team (boyfriends) bonding with the cheerleaders.
- I'd forgotten how much I missed Phil! Although I was very distressed by the twist of the early elimination, that just sucked.
- Can't wait for next week!
Corner Gas (Canadian sitcom) - Hair Comes the Judge 4:1
- Not the best episode but still nice to see all the Dog River inhabitants again.
- My favourite part was Oscar trying to bond with the kids by attempting car talk.
Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip - Pilot 1:1
- This is probably the show I was most looking forward to and it lived up to my expectations. I'm definitely excited about it and hope that it does well enough to survive. (Of course I'm excited by a show about TV!)
- I really loved the cast, especially Matthew Perry. And any show that starts out with Judd Hirsh playing someone who can't take it anymore and rants (on live TV) about the problems with the television industry, is a show that I have to love.
- I'm particularly taken with the cast and think everyone's excellent. [ETA: heeee! I didn't re-read this before posting so just noticed that I say TWICE that I love the cast. I've decided to leave it in because I clearly was impressed by the cast!] And the guest stars were great - very cool that they had Felicity Huffman.
- There were a few times when I felt that things were a bit too easy or pat, but I'll give a lot of leeway for a pilot - it takes shows a while to get their groove.
- Excellent music, it really drew me and got me excited about the show.
How I Met Your Mother - Where We Were 2:1
- I'm very pleased by the second season premiere, it suggests a strong season for the show. I thought they wisely focused on Marshall trying to deal with his (so very sad) break-up with Lilly, instead of the Ted & Robin romance.
- There was a sad absence of Lilly in the episode which I think was purposeful - to help us empathize with Marshall.
- Although the Barney content wasn't high, it was good! Loved his hatred of the coupleyness of Ted & Robin.
- Loved the ending - I totally teared up.
House - Informed Consent 3:3
- Another good episode.
- Loved when House was talking about the patients and his staff was talking about him using his cane again - very well-done.
- There were a bunch of good lines (as always) that I wished I'd written down.
- Joel Grey was very good, and kinda creepy.
- I liked how Cameron in particular actually looked like she'd been up all night. And it's very cool that she's the one who did it in the end.
- I'm not that keen on the whole young girl hitting on House thing.
Dancing with the Stars - 3:2
- Joe Lawrence (note that he's no longer Joey with a "y") totally was the star last night. Very very impressive job at the Quick Step!!
- Again, I found this show best to watch with
![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
- The only reason Jerry Springer is still in this competition is because of his massive fan base. He's trying but he's not nearly as good as any of the other contestants.
The Daily Show & the Colbert Report
- I'm really enjoying watching both of these shows right now. Both are consistently good.
- I especially loved the 'gays in the military' segment and the clips from Even Stephens last night.
Well, I have killed time before my review. It is just a few minutes away now. Oh, and should you be wondering, my icon is for How I Met Your Mother.

I was so happy it was back, I'd forgotten all about it this summer. And then I remembered I had a couple eps downloaded and reawatched them. My fave is totally the one where Barney and Robin go out on the town XD
Isn't Joel Grey *always* creepy? I just keep remembering him in Buffy and shivering. :-)
Joel Grey does always seem to be creepy! The funny thing is, he has a huge body of work and - I believe - an Academy Award, yet I always associate him with Doc on Buffy.
I didn't care for the 17 year old hitting on House either. I guess this will play out next week.
I too loved Barney being squicked by the coupley stuff.
Yeah, I'm hoping they'll do something interesting with the whole 17 year old thing.
I heart Barney so much!! *g*
This made me grin because I had to dig out my Bowie's Greatest Hits CD today after watching the pilot a second time. Mike and I usually watch together over meals but he had to leave to teach and I couldn't stop watching, so I saw it again today. I was really jazzed by the writing. I agree with the criticisms about Peet's character but I thought the rest was really engaging. What a great bunch of people they got together for the pilot. Even if the show goes downhill from here I think they an opening worth watching on its own.
the clips from Even Stephens last night
How much fun was that! I'd never seen a bunch of those before and it was hilarious. I was just waiting for the icons to start appearing today.
Re: Dancing, yes, Lopez is very good but it was very bad strategy. Mike said it was one of the few times he was in complete agreement with all the judges. Lawrence was fabulous, definitely the Drew of this season I think, and Emmitt is the Jerry, charming and with lots of potential. I think he was lucky to draw Cheryl because she's a good choreographer and seems to be working with his strengths. I was less enthused about the women this time around, but I love Vivica Fox's sass.
I hadn't seen a bunch of those Even Stephens, so I enjoyed getting to see them. I haven't seen any icons yet, but I'm sure there are some!
It's funny to completely agree with the judges isn't it? Camisha predicted everything that the judges said when she was explaining what was wrong with Mario's performance to me. I admit to not knowing enough about dancing to know what Mario shouldn't have done without being told. Yeah, the women didn't shine that much for either, although like you I enjoyed Vivica's sass! *g*
Studio 60 & HIMYM are definitely making Monday a good TV night. And there's so many shows that I love on Thursdays! I'm not a big CSI fan which is probably good because I'm already watching Grey's, My Name is Earl, The Office, Smallville and Supernatural. And wasn't Grey's excellent last night?! I'm not sure if other people enjoyed it but I really did. *g*
