...but well-muscled. (btvs 5:18)

That Xander line always warms my Spander-loving heart, which is good since I’m in the midst of working on my [livejournal.com profile] fall_for_sx fic. I’ll be posting the first half on Wed. November 15th and the second on Thurs. November 23rd /self-promoting. The story’s sort of consuming me right now so I keep forgetting to post updates about me or thoughts on TV (I’m also – as usual – behind on multiple shows). I thought I’d do an update post tonight as a break between editing my fic and catching up on BSG.

Here’s what’s making me happy about TV:

- Reba is back!! I can’t believe I didn’t know this earlier! I know that only a couple of other people will be excited about this – but when I found this out it made my evening! I love this show. I’m hoping for lots more slashy Reba/Barbra Jean moments this season!

- Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip picked up for the full season!! Yeah, I know this is old news to most of you, but this is exciting for me. Now the two new shows I’m really enjoying, Studio 60 and Heroes, will both be around for the full season. It’s so lovely to exhale my breath and sit back and enjoy without worries that a show I’ve committed to will get cancelled. (fyi to Friday Night Lights fans: I have the show on my pvr and plan to watch it asap!!)

I’m watching other TV, I just don’t have much to say about it. Oh! Other than that I continue to love Grey’s Anatomy and am trying to not be disappointed with Veronica Mars.

Here’s what’s making me happy in my life:

I’m feeling a bit happier and generally in better spirits this past week. Yay! Which may be related to my visit with Camisha last weekend. *g* I also think the “No Emo” CD she made for me is helping.

So last weekend’s LJ blackout didn’t really affect me since I was basically internetless during that time – although it did make it easier to catch-up after. I should say that I actually did go back and read everyone’s posts, I just didn’t do a lot of comments … but I am up-to-date on my flist! *smiles winningly*

The weekend was lovely. I met a huge amount of Camisha’s family which went very well (despite the initial confusion when they thought my name was Angela. Not my real name). They were all so nice and welcoming – I am relieved and pleased and happy.

Other good things:
- Still doing the Bikram Yoga and loving it. Today’s class was especially good.
- Starbucks (who I suspect is trying to kill me, or possibly just trying to own my soul) has their wintery seasonal products out. This is so exciting for me because my favourite combo with chocolate is peppermint, so I’m delighted that the Peppermint Hot Chocolates are back!! AND they have these amazing Mint Brownies (it’s kind of like a Minty Nanaimo Bar combined with a brownie). I’m going to have to exercise lots of self-control to not over-indulge!

That's all I have for now! *hugs*

I'm happy to hear that you're doing well and you had a great weekend!

Oh yay! That's one of the great things about winter (not the soul-stealing part). Personally, I'm looking forward to the eggnog coffee at Second Cup. YUM.

Thanks! It was a lovely weekend! *g*

hee! Yes, the soul-stealing would be less good so I hope Starbucks is more about my money than my soul. *g* Oooh, that sounds yummy too! The eggnog drinks are good!

Glad your visit and meeting the family went well :>

am trying to not be disappointed with Veronica Mars

It does seem to be a bit lackluster for some reason. I'm thinking it might be because the various characters are off in their own storylines instead of interacting as much with Veronica. On the plus side this gives them a chance at more character development but on the minus side the show seems less dynamic. I think a good example was the very brief time we saw Wallace and Veronica interacting and yet I realized how much I missed seeing them together. They're great buddies. And where did Mac disappear to?

Thanks! It was an excellent time! *g*

I think you've hit on what's been less good about this season. I've been really enjoying Wallace's storyline, and was so proud of him but I miss the Veronica and Wallace interactions! And I really miss Mac! It's weird that she's on the cast but has hardly been in any episodes.

It's odd, I'm still enjoying the episodes because I really love the characters but the show itself isn't sparking for me this season. I'm also worried about where the mystery's going (and disliking the portrayal of feminists) which isn't helping.

Yes the potrayal of women in general on the show has always been a weakness. For example in this latest episode we noticed how Veronica's chat with her dad about her prof somewhat mirrored Buffy's talk with Giles about Maggie Walsh. And while the potential mentor was again shown to have feet of clay, it just made me more aware of how easy it would be to have women in these roles but they're not. If the feminist storyline is a way of getting more women in the story it's not the best approach since Veronica is essentially at odds with them.

Oh! That's a great parallel!! And it's a reminder of the lack of positive and/or complex women on the show (besides Veronica and the mostly absent Mac). I think I could deal with the feminist storyline if there was a balance of feminists portrayed on the show. *sigh* I am trying to be optimistic about it though.

I'm with you on VM - it started out strong for me, but the last few...eh? And I miss Mac! And Dick!

Oh, you met the fam! How cool. I'm glad you guys had a great visit, and I'm eagerly awaiting your S/X fic.

Oh, VM! Why are you disappointing us?! *lifts arms in the air in woe* hee, um, seriously I am still enjoying the show, mostly because of my love for the characters. But it's just not sparking for me this year. And I miss Mac and Dick too! *g*

Meeting the family was less scary than I imagined because everyone was so nice - something that's not easy to come by! And the visit was awesome!

Yay! I hope you like the fic. I'm editing the first half RIGHT NOW!

I'm starting to be afraid I'll never love VM as much as I did in the first season. But I'm holding out hope! (I've only seen, um, the first 3 of S3, I think. Or 4? Anyway, I'm behind for sure.)

I continue to be terrified that I won't finish my ficathon piece. And I look forward to getting my life back. And I have promised myself that I'll never decide to write anything to a deadline ever again. :P

Yeah, I think that VM is one of those shows that had an amazing 1st season making it difficult to top. I'm still trying to be optimistic too because I still really enjoy the characters.

You can do it!! I'm impressed by how much you've written so far (which is way more than me). I find that the deadline does help me to actually start writing and keeps me focused to finish, but it can be stressful. *g*

hee. Most people don't get my love for Reba, but I have gotten a couple of people to check it out and enjoy it! *g*

And the holiday flavours at Starbucks are exciting! I'm planning to get the Peppermint Hot Chocolate soon!

Things are going well! *g*

I am so glad to hear that you are feeling better! How wonderful that you met Camisha's family, I bet they loved you. Also, Nanaimo Bars are entirely kick-ass and THEY ARE NOT TO BE FOUND ANYWHERE NEAR ME!!! :(

Yay for the No Emo CD. I needs me one of those, stat! *smooches and smoothes*

I am reposting this comment because I realized I may have put too much info in it.

It is great to be feeling a bit better! And meeting Camisha's family went so well! They're all super friendly and nice, which made it so much easier to be relaxed.

That's so sad about the lack of Nanaimo Bars! :( They are so yummy and should be near you!

Oh no, I hope you're doing alright (since you said need a No Emo CD). *squeezes tight*

Oh! I will be visiting Camisha geographically near YOU in January (December 31st-January 8th) so I was wondering if you'd be around and up for visiting?

*smooches and smoothes*

glad that meeting the fam went well. that's always stressful at first.
i, too, am excited that the winter bevs are back @ *bux. however, i think they are trying to kill my budget. my beloved drinks (green tea latte and chai latte, both with soy) have gone up over $5 with tax. why must they charge extra for soy milk? is it really that much more expensive?
i'm making knock-off versions at home. wish me luck.

I was stressed about meeting the family before actually meeting them, but once I did it was easy to relax. It went surprisingly well (which is not something that always happens).

Yes, I'd been noticing that Starbucks has been increasing its prices. Over $5 is crazy!! Good for you for making your own!! I hope that goes well! *g*

I SWEAR you won't be disappointed.

am trying to not be disappointed with Veronica Mars.

It comes and it goes. Someone on my Flist said it was never going to be what it was in S1 again and that if she/he could just accept that, they'd enjoy it a lot more. I agree and that's what I'm trying to do.

I can't wait to read your S/X fic ::squee::

and ::squish::

I REALLY want to watch FNL and am very much looking forward to it! I've just been so absorbed in writing (and being away) but I'm hoping to have time soon!

Someone on my Flist said it was never going to be what it was in S1 again and that if she/he could just accept that, they'd enjoy it a lot more.
It's definitely a good perspective, because I don't think VM will ever match it's S1 brilliance - but it's still a good show. I was okay with that in S2, which is a season I really enjoyed. I think that the feminist thing is aggravating me (especially since I think Veronica's such a strong female character) so it's making it harder for me to enjoy. But I still love the characters so I'm not going anywhere!!

Oh yay! I hope you enjoy it! *g*

VM *is* still a good show I'm very content and fannish over it still - but it's *not* as good. The feminist stuff is getting to me as well as this foreboding sense Logan is going to be somehow implicated/guilty/falsely accused of the rapes and I'm sorry - but I can't go there.

Spoiler people keep reassuring me that it's all in my head, but obviously it's not because of the gambling guy and what Logan said last week.

And I'm sure I will very much enjoy your fic.
