cordelianne: (HP Harry/Cedric Make Out)
(quote from btvs 5:4) So I thought I would share What I Did While LJ Was Down:

1. Lamented to myself that I’d recently posted Chapter Three of If I Can’t Dance (my new S/X fic) and now it was likely to have low readership and comments. (What? That wasn’t a subtle self-pimp?! *ahem* ;) )

2. Celebrated that by some stroke of unconscious psychic powers, I’d opened random multiple fic posts on tabs shortly before LJ went down! (I have lots of tabs open at home but I was at work and normally have *no* fic open on tabs.) So I was able to read and write up comments (which I saved in an email and posted once LJ was back up).

3. Was actually motivated to work on my least favourite task at work due to exhausting all the tabs I had open.

4. Discovered that the downtime was a San Francisco based issue when craigslist didn’t work. And why was I looking on craiglist? Well…(see #5)

5. A co-worker sent us this non-spoilery post about a gay Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows sex party. The post is NWS (my office is, er, kinda different so porn and nudity isn’t a problem here). Here’s the link.

6. And speaking of gay HP stuff, I watched this awesome vid: Harry Potter and the Brokeback Goblet. Seriously, this so rocks!

7. Since HP is clearly on my brain right now, I also giggled at the fake covers for Deathly Hallows. No spoilers, just silliness.

8. And in more HP obsessiveness, I found a thoughtful and interesting review of Deathly Hallows (basically spoiler-free) which I definitely agree with (oh and the reviewer’s Canadian which pleases me). AND by the same author, I read her reflections on the HP series as a whole, ‘Harry and Me’ (written pre-DH). That definitely also represents my thoughts on the series.

9. I also caught up on one of my favourite blogs: BSC Headquarters. Yes! This is the blog by the girl who read the Baby-sitters Club books when she was a kid (like me!!!) and is now re-reading and blogging about them in a fun and snarky way. Oh man, this takes me back – I LOVED those books. Thanks to [livejournal.com profile] molly_may for first alerting me to this.

10. Finally watched the season finale of 24 and was disappointed. This season just didn’t live up to the awesome cracktasticness of last season.

So those are the random things I thought you all might find interesting! :D

OMG, that BSC link! That is a goldmine of crack. I read those books furiously when I was in like, Grade 7. I wanted to be the BSC girls so much. Dude, they had their own telephones and had money to buy their own clothes and earrings and apparently never needed parents around to do anything. I can't remember if I had a favourite or not.

Yes!!! I'm so addicted to that BSC blog, it really takes me back *and* it's neat to read about what happened in the series once I stopped reading. She also has a really fun take on the books - the snark is awesome! She updates weekly so I find it easy to keep up-to-date.

I also read those books furiously! I had #1-40 and 5 Super Specials. It was definitely an early fandom for me. I can't remember if I had a favourite or not either. I remember thinking the characters were so stylish and now when I read the outfit descriptions on the blog I cringe. Oh! I remember I went to see the movie even though I was way too old just because I wanted to see how they'd adapted it. I recall thinking it was alright. *sigh* I loved that series.

Ooh, now I don't think I saw the movie but I definitely read several super specials and probably the first 50 or so books. But then I hit Grade 8 or so and it probably wasn't cool anymore ;)

Yeah, I so wanted all of their clothes. And they got to go on a CRUISE! And go to a winter getaway place and be heroic go-getters! Good times.

Oh yes, that happened to me too. In fact, I suspect I read them a bit longer than was cool to - I just didn't tell anyone I was still reading them!

I remember being so jealous when they went on a Cruise!! heee! Oh, and the camp one - so different than my own summer camp!

Oh, and re: your HP discussion I thought you might enjoy reading this from a set visit to the Colbert Report yesterday:

I guess they usually chat a little bit first to make sure the connection's good, and Jon started out by saying, "Stephen, how's the little girl?" And Stephen said, "Oh, she's okay." And then he turned to us and told us that his daughter had been in the hospital all weekend. So Jon was asking how she was, and Stephen said she was doing better, and home, and the antibiotics had worked... Stephen said, "All she wanted for this weekend was to lie in bed and read Harry Potter without her brothers bothering her. So I told her that she was getting that, only every once in awhile someone would come in and jab her with a needle." And we laughed, and then Stephen said, "VOLDEMORT!" and made a stabbing motion.

heeeee! That's awesome! :D Awww, I love those two. And it's neat to get a behind-the-scenes account, thanks for the link! :D

hi!

i haven't read any of the babysitter's club books or harry potter, so... i'm sure most of that will be lost on me, lol

but i was caught in the same power outage as livejournal yesterday, which i thought was funny once i'd gotten out of work and tried to check my flist in a cafe.

and then i realized how much else i look at went down in the same crash, because i, too, tried to log onto craigslist.

speaking of craigslist: *waggles eyebrows* just why, praytell, are you looking at craigslist? ;)

also: hi! you've posted a couple of things now that i'm chomping at the bit to read, and have not had the time for. and i feel like i haven't said hi in a while. :)

Hi! Awww to not having read BSC or HP - both are so fun! Okay, well I'm not sure if I'd suggest reading BSC *now*, but it was fun when I was younger. But I do enjoy the diversion of HP, it makes me happy. I was talking to someone today who didn't read HP and I was like "What *did* you do on the weekend?!" (I am being silly of course! *g*)

speaking of craigslist: *waggles eyebrows* just why, praytell, are you looking at craigslist? ;)
Oh, opps! I did a bad job explaining on my post: #5 (which follows the comment about craigslist) is the posting on craigslist I was trying to look at. It's the gay HP sex party. That's a link that's amusing to check out even if you don't read the books!

heee! That's amusing that you were caught in the power outage and then tried to check your flist!

And hi! That's lovely to hear! I totally get that, you have a number of things I've been wanting to read too. It's so hard to stay on top of things. :D

It's so hard to stay on top of things Man, yes. I was just saying to [livejournal.com profile] yourlibrarian on her latest poll (which, have you seen it yet? it's really interesting) that it feels like it's really hard to balance being a reader, a writer, and just a plain ol' fangirl sometimes... not to mention, you know, RL. *g*

You're so right - it's so hard to balance all those things. When I'm really trying to write, I frequently won't read fic because I've found if I decide to read and comment on a few things it'll take up my whole night and I won't get any writing done. Oh yes, RL that can be hard to fit in too! :D Oh, and I did see the poll!

There was LJ down time? ::blinks:: *That's* what I get for sleeping - honestly!! :)
Glad HP is keeping you obsessive :D

heeee! You totally win for missing the downtime!! That's awesome, it just proves how excellent sleep is.

Oh yeah, HP is my fun new summer distraction! :D
