cordelianne: (Buffy Future is Bright)
Hi! Hi! I can't believe I haven't posted in so long! And when that happens I keep feeling that my return needs to be significant which then means I never get around to posting. So vicious cycle. heh. I'm doing well, just really busy with the new part-time Library School studies along with my full-time job.

BUT! I'm so appalled and scared by the way politics are heading these days, especially in Canada, that I have to post. I know I don't usually post about politics but I feel this is something everyone should see. Stephen Harper (Conservative leader and PM of Canada) plagiarizing from the Australian leader John Howard (back in 2003 when Harper was the Opposition leader):

At my university, UofT, plagiarism is taken very seriously, as it should be. We can get expelled for it. I hope all voters take this instance of blatant plagiarism as seriously.

Also, I feel everyone should read this article:

Stephen Harper and the Rising Clout of Canada's Religious Right.

It's a really interesting examination into Stephen Harper's affiliation with the extreme right evangelical Christians. It's quite long but worth reading for anyone concerned about how dangerous the right wing Christians are to all of us (especially for the LGBT community).

And now that I've posted, hopefully I'll post more often! With fun things too! :D

And this would be why I'm voting for the NDP. *pets the orange party* They have no chance of winning, but I *believe* in a lot more of their policies than any other party in Canada.

The Liberals this election are a *joke*, no matter what my personal opinion of Stéphane Dion is; and voting for the Bloc Québécois is out of the question for me, because of my acute distaste of the "separation" question *g*

My ex will almost definitely be voting (again) for Harper, and that would be a good reason why we were so very badly matched. *g* (My hate for Harper, let me tell you it)

I hate elections. GAH.

*hugs*

Yeah, the whole election is just generally disheartening because there's not too many good viable choices. I continue to be horrified that so many people are planning to vote for Harper and the Conservatives. I cannot understand it - and it scares me.

hee! It sounds like you and your ex were badly matched! Fortunately your wonderful partner now is extremely better! :D

I will give the Liberals credit because they're the ones who are calling Harper out on this - they created the video. Of course, it's Bob Rae, former NDPer who is behind this (I know a lot of people in his riding who are voting for him because of he was an NDP). I'm now hoping for a NDP-Liberal coalition. I think coalitions are effective because parties can't drive their own agenda and there's lots of balances in place.

I just hope this video makes people reconsider voting for Harper. If only I knew who those people were to send them this video! Or perhaps I don't want to know them! :D

I cannot believe that ANYONE plagiarised John Howard. And I already thought Stephen Harper was evil - now he's that and stupid.

Wow.

heee! Or Harper just hoped the rest of us are stupid! But still, stupid. I hope this really bites Harper in the ass cause he's so scary and evil.

Lifting quotes is one thing, outright theft of an entire speech is mind-boggling.

Oh wow! I'm an Aussie and that was weird and scary to watch.

We don't have "Little Johnny" in power any more over here, thank goodness.

I can imagine how weird and scary it is to watch - it's all just so creepy! I really hope that Harper doesn't get re-elected, I'd like to be free of him the way you all are of "Little Johnny"!

Hi there!

Politics [and the economy] get scarier by the minute. I'd like to say I'm relieved it's not just the US but I'm not. That means it's contagious.

Things really are getting scary! Yeah, it really sucks that it's contagious. I am hoping for Obama wins. Cause, hey, if Harper gets elected here, at least we'll have the US as an option! Instead of Americans wanting to live in Canada, we'll be wanting to live in the US! (Okay, I already want to do that for for very different reasons. ;) )

*hugs*

Okay, so I don't have much to say about the whole Harper thing, because sheesh, but BWAH! to the post title! *g*

Sheesh is definitely right! If only more people had reacted that way and *not* voted for him. It's an awesome quote isn't it?! Gotta love Cordelia! :D
