cordelianne: (Vmars Dick Is...)
Hello all!! It's been a while since I updated. I can't believe it's June 4th already!! The days are just flying by. It's been crazy stressful at work recently so there's been days when I'll keep refreshing my flist but then don't have the mental capacity to actually comment at the time, let alone write an entry. But we shall speak no more of this no more!

Good news!

  • On Thursday I received an email notifying me that Xander 2.0 is nominated at the Serenity on the Hellmouth Awards in the Buffy and Xander categories!!!! I'm extremely touched and flattered that someone liked it enough to nominate it. Thank you!! I'm very excited about the nomination but am also shy about it which is why it's taken me a few days to post about it.

  • Not my news but still very exciting: My friend is selling his house and moving to the south of France to write a book (on Organizing). Even though I'm sad that he's leaving the city, I'm so thrilled for him because I know it will be an amazing experience. I'm also very jealous and it makes me want to do crazy things like quit my job until I remember I don't have a house to sell.

Despite the fact that my little corner of LJ is a wonderful and positive space (*loves everyone on my flist* You all give me such joy!!), I've managed to run across those various fandom hate memes and posts. I think it's fine to have a sense of humour about ourselves and not take things too seriously, but fandom - or my idea of fandom - should be about fun, and seeing the word "hate" bandied about distresses me. Maybe it's because there's been some upsetting things happening in Canada recently (eg. Massive arrest of suspected terrorists in Toronto, whose targets included downtown Toronto, and PM Stephen Harper to re-open same-sex marriage issue and have a free vote in the fall), and that's making me more sensitive. Nonetheless, I feel that there's enough hate and badness in real life, that we don't need to bring the hate to fandom. (I think ranting and critical thought is good, it's this whole hate thing that bothers me.) Sure I take my writing seriously, but I'm ultimately here for the fun and because it brightens my day. I say we should have less hate, more love!!!!!

    Don't you want my love?
    It's a cloud, it's a broken boat
But it might make you laugh a bit
    Easier

    - Sarah Slean's Drastic Measures

So in the spirit of fun, and love for Veronica Mars (which has been the target of much hate recently), I have a fun Dick-centric drabble. (See I haven't forgotten about my drabble requests, I'm just really really slow! But I've been writing lots recently, so yay!)

For [livejournal.com profile] brandil who requested: Either Logan, Weevil, or Dick. You choose. I chose Dick because I've been writing a Logan/Weevil fic ... so watch this space!!

No spoilers for the show, set really anytime during the series.
Warning: Dick is, well, a dick.

    The Ladies
    by Cordelianne

The cleavage is okay, he’s seen better. But awesome ass, something to really grab onto. Okay. She’s on the “to do” list, he decides. He nods and flashes her the Dick Casablancas get-the-girls smile. She swishes by.

His eyes sweep the room and pass by Veronica. No way is he getting involved with that, even if she’s smokin’ and – from Duncan and Logan’s glazed looks – gives wicked blow jobs.

His head whips around when he spies Marcie leaning forward, giving the girls some air. Yeah, that’s more like it. He turns around to take it all in.

    “Lookin’ good ladies.”

Dude. You nailed Dick. Teee-hee. I'm still giggling over your drabble even though he is a dick. I love the DC smile and just the way you've allowed us to see his thoughts. So very Dick, strangely endearing and a little off-putting. And whoa Veronica's good with her mouth? (Oi. Terrible pun) ::rolls eyes at my own terrible inanity::
I heard about the suspected terrorist arrests in Toronto in the news. I couldn't help making the comment that it's strange how this has happened since you've had a change in government, but I'm really sorry to hear that there have been unsettling things in RL. It seems to me that Canadians tend to be fairly open-minded and liberal so I hope that the bill isn't changed as well.
    ::many hugs::
    Yay for Sarah Slean.
Congrats on the nomination and loads of good luck to your friend! I expect he speaks French? This will probably be so much more helpful, though France is a fairly bureaucratic place to live. I wish him well though.
    Eeee! L/W!!

Dude. You nailed Dick. Yay! Thanks! I was a little freaked by how easy I found it to write him because of his extreme jerkiness and crudeness. So very Dick, strangely endearing and a little off-putting. That really is the perfect way to describe him, so I'm very pleased I was able to do that! Yeah, the Veronica thing, when I wrote that I was like "Did I just write that?! eeek!" Oh, that Dick.

I couldn't help making the comment that it's strange how this has happened since you've had a change in government Very good point. The new government is particularly disturbing and I believe affecting things very negatively. Thanks for your kind thoughts. *hugs back* I'm hoping that the vote on same-sex marriage is more about fulfilling an election promise because they do not have a majority in the house and it seems insane that they'll be actually able to take away people's rights.

I'm totally addicted to Sarah Slean right now!! Listening to her albums got me through the work stress.

Thanks! *g* I believe my friend has decent French and he has some family there which is helpful (especially with the bureaucratic aspect).

Eeee! L/W!! I know! I just hope it's actually good..

See, I was already to think about other things from your post, but now I'm stuck on the quality of Veronica's blow jobs. Seriously, men are pigs. Or at least dogs.

(On a related note, make love, not war!)

Yeah, this post covers a lot of different things. I probably should have posted stuff separately but it seemed oddly fitting to end with a silly Dick-centric drabble. It's a bizarre experience getting into Dick's mind, I was a little freaked by the results.

(On a related note, make love, not war!) Never a truer word. Do NOT check out any of those hate memes or communities, they're horribly vicious and petty and distressing.

Instead I'm just going to enjoy your icon!!

    the icon: another Kazzy_Cee creation!
Be assured, I did read all of your post! It's just that this is the first time I ever had cause to think about Veronica Mars and oral sex at the same time. I'm torn between "she wouldn't do it at all" and "she puts her all into *everything* she does!" After some consideration, I've decided the latter is most likely.

Re: the icon: another Kazzy_Cee creation!
The thing for me about Dick thinking about blowjobs is that he doesn't actually get why Duncan and Logan have the glazed looks. I don't think Dick gets deeper feelings and that the glazed looks could be resulting from actual feelings for someone else. Although if he is around next season, I'd be interested in his reaction to the whole Cassidy situation - we may see some depth from Dick yet.

    Dick Depth
It depends on whether Dick's shallowness grows from him being a teenage male, or whether he's just destined to be a shallow person, but he could do some growing yet. The question is, do we want Dick to grow? Some characters are much more fun when they stay stunted. (Although not for the long term -- a few seasons is it, then they need to grow or go. I call that the "Frank Burns" syndrome)

    Re: Dick Depth
I suspect that I don't want Dick to grow. It's really fun to watch - on tv - a character who's that shallow and lacking in depth. He's a good kind of entertaining minor character.

    entertaining but shallow
Another one of those characters we love to watch, but would hate to be around. In the past year I've discovered the TV show "Becker" in reruns, and have found myself becoming a big fan -- even though I couldn't take fifteen minutes with that man in real life before I'd be punching him in the nose. Another to add to the list, along with the entire cast of "Friends".

Congratulations on the nomination! I hadn't read that particular fic yet, so it was thoughtful of you to provide a link. :D

This corner of LJ is a nice little save haven from the craziness of the outside world. ::loves Buffy fandom:: And I'm trying not to get anxious about this government, but it's not easy.

    Oh, Dick. ::shakes head::

I totally read it as "safe haven". *g* And look! One of Dick's many qualities is a being a "good speller"!

Thanks!! teehee I'm not sure if it was thoughtful or just me self-pimping! :)

Yes! Yes, do not leave our lovely haven here. I made the mistake of clicking on one of those anonymous hate memes (for Battlestar Galactica) and am still horrified. I'm now enjoying some good BtVS fanfic and blocking out all the scariness. I'm also trying not to get anxious about the government but it keeps getting harder.

That's the perfect reaction to Dick, isn't it?!! *g*

I've gone a little crazy with VM icons and today realized I have 3 different Dick icons alone. :)

Oh, I'm not going anywhere. :) I don't understand why people have to stir things up. Either their lives are extremely dull or they're horribly misanthropic. Possibly both.

Hey! I still have to tell you about the "premiere." I'll send you an email - I feel weird talking about this stuff on LJ.

Either their lives are extremely dull or they're horribly misanthropic. Possibly both. I think you're right. It's like anonymity allows people to display the worst sides of themselves. And there's people who just enjoy being bitter and nasty. So I guess they're having fun?

Oh, yes! I'm excited to hear about the premiere and your reactions to the film!! Do email!! *g*

Congratulations on the nomination. And holy god, you stopped thinking about Logan/Weevil and started writing. I may build you a shrine. Love the drabble, you've really captured Dick -- it's funny to think he has that much going through his head (as dumb as he is you'd think it'd just be rocks) but there's probably even more going on under that top layer of thoughts, I'd hate to think what they were though :: shudders::

Thanks!! I'm pleased you love the drabble! Yeah, it's definitely a little scary getting into Dick's head. I was a little freaked out by how easy he was to write and am not sure I'd want to explore those other layers. *shudder*

I'm very pleased about actually writing the Logan/Weevil fic! It's still in the early draft/editing stage but I'm hoping to have it ready to post soon!

hey, sorry that i haven't returned your call. i will after tomorrow (my report cards are due). congrats on your nomination! you're an amazing writer, so i'm not surprised. is the south of france going to put an end to your writing partnership? i'm worried...

No worries about the phone call thing. I know it's a crazy-busy time for you. I hope the report cards go well!! I can't believe it's June already, Pride's just around the corner - I need to get an outfit!!

Thanks for your lovely words about my writing! *hugs* It will be more difficult for the writing but the wonders of things like Instant Messenger means we should still be able to co-write. Also, it will give me the opportunity to continue developing as a solo writer (which is one of the motivations behind the fanfic writing).
