Whenever I have a bad day, like today (thanks PMS, excessive heat, really painful blisters and work stress), I try to focus on things that make me happy. So I decided this would be the perfect time to share my list of favourite kisses on television!

Michael Ausiello (TV Guide) reports that Veronica Mars has been renewed!!! The sad news is that Everwood won't be. Here's what you'll find at the link:
Straight from the horse's mouth, Rob Thomas just e-mailed me to confirm that Veronica Mars has been renewed for a third season. The show got a 22-episode order that, depending on ratings, can be reduced to 13. Very reliable sources, meanwhile, are also telling me that One Tree Hill will be back and that Everwood is, in fact, dead. Talk about injustice.
So I'm trying to focus on the positive that my beloved Veronica Mars will be back. I'm a little worried because this is similar to what happened to Arrested Development and we know how that turned out.
I've been lucky because Everwood is the only one of my shows so far to be officially not renewed. (I am incredibly sad about this, because it's one of the best shows on television.) Here's what's been renewed so far:
- My Name is Earl: Moves to Thursdays 8pm, NBC
- The Office: Moves to Thursdays 8:30pm, NBC
- Scrubs: It won't be airing until mid-season, like this year. NBC
- What About Brian: Mondays 10pm, ABC (I haven't decided if I'll keep watching.)
- Lost: Wednesdays 9pm, ABC (I'm considering not watching next season because I haven't been loving this season and I need to cut down on the amount of shows I watch)
- Grey's Anatomy: Moves to Thursday 9pm, ABC
ETA: - I believe that Gilmore Girls has already been picked up by the CW (probably for Tuesdays 8pm).
ETA#2: - Because the official schedules haven't been announced I forgot that Bones and How I Met Your Mother have already been renewed.
I haven't been following the new shows too closely because I find so much can change between now and September. And I'm trying to reduce the amount of tv shows I watch, not increase them.

So I do have further thoughts about those episodes and the season two mystery. ( Massive season two spoilers for Veronica Mars, as well as general silliness )
My friend and I had been discussing the various aspects of the season, when she said:
And another thing that I can’t figure out is how you managed to eat that many carrots when I never saw you over here. (The carrots were much closer to her.) heeee! And from there our evening devolved into her saying my post's title when we lost our ability to speak coherently.
I did send her home with 3 video tapes of television shows. Smallville and Everwood were the ones she wanted but I convinced her she should take Supernatural as well. She was easily convinced because of the pretty boy factor, although I did note that it's a well done show. I'm totally the dealer of all things tv to my friends.

It was such an intense tv night, I was only able to watch Veronica Mars and Gilmore Girls. I noticed an interesting – and unspoilery – similar theme in both episodes. Both shows’ season finales featured the motif of waking up from dreams/sleep.
( Oh yeah, spoilers gallore for Veronica Mars ‘Not Pictured’ 2:22 )
( Some very brief thought about Gilmore Girls ‘Partings’ 6:22 )
Since this post is heavy in spoilers, I thought I’d include a couple of fun things for those who don’t watch the shows or haven’t seen the episodes yet.

- If any of you missed Stephen Colbert’s speech at the White House Correspondent’s Diner, you must see it NOW!
In between watching VM and GG, I called one of my BFFs (in a state of shock and excitement) and we had a ridiculously cracked out conversation in which we planned two different vacations to take together: 1.Travel in England & Scotland, and 2. Take a road trip through the U.S. The second idea got really insane as we started imagining all the people we’d bring with us (our plan started to sound like The Muppet Movie).
My friend also told me how she discovered these kids who’d started a fire in one of Toronto’s ravines, so she called the police. After waiting for a bit, she got worried about the fire because she knows how easily these kinds of fires can spread, so grabbed her red bucket and headed back to the ravine (there’s a stream in the ravine). She found the firefighters who were still searching for the fire, and directed them to it. Because they were in the ravine, the firefighters didn’t have their fire equipment so they asked to borrow her red bucket!!! That image totally cracks me up.

Now I’m looking at the “notes” I made while watching various tv shows and shaking my head at how unhelpful they are. For example, here’s something I wrote about this about this week’s Gilmore Girls episode: “Come what may. (Moulin Rouge)” Um, what? I think someone may have said that line and I was noting that it’s the title of that song in Moulin Rouge, but I can’t recall the context.
Anyway, here are my thoughts about my tv shows:
( Gilmore Girls ‘Driving Miss Gilmore’ 6:21 )
( Veronica Mars ‘Happy Go Lucky’ 2:21 )
( Scrubs ‘My Fallen Idol’ 5:21 )
( The Amazing Race ‘Man, They Should Have Used Their Fake Names’ )
( Smallville ‘Oracle’ 5:21 )
( Supernatural ‘Devil’s Trap’ 1:22 )
I did see Mission: Impossible III with a couple of friends and it was a fun time. ( Not really spoilers but there’s a bit of rambling about MI-III and about book references. )
Before I finish this rambly post, I wanted to give people a heads up that I’m planning another music post for this weekend. They’ll be more Arcade Fire and another band/musician (*is mysterious*). I thought I’d see if anyone had any other requests. I love sharing things that make me happy so if there’s something you want to hear more of, let me know!! *g*

The good news is that I actually finished some fic and sent it off to be edited!!! Um, whether it's actually any good is another story. I'm a bundle of neurosis about it now, and am convinced it's all horrible, or worse pretentiously horrible.
However the weather is beautiful out, and I had a WONDERFUL walk to work!! This is my favourite time of year; it's sunny and just above 10 degrees (Celcius) so that you still need a jacket but walking briskly doesn't make you too hot.
I have also been very good and not had any candy or chocolate since I declared I would give it up on Friday (in solidarity with a friend). This is not a permanent thing, as I could never live without chocolate. *clings to chocolate* But I've been eating way too many sweets recently so I'm trying to get back into the habit of having chocolate occasionally as a treat, not every day!!
The only thing of fandom-related note that I have is a reminder about Veronica Mars:
Veronica Mars's new air date is now Tuesdays at 9pm on UPN (starting tomorrow April 11th).
Sadly I have a staff meeting and party that night, so this'll be the first time this year I won't be able to watch VM live. It's the only show I watch when it airs (instead of a recording afterwards), so this is very sad to me. Oh well, it's not like this is the finale, which I am NOT missing!!
ETA: I just read that Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin named their new baby boy Moses Martin. Moses?!! If I had a choice I'd so choose Apple, there's just so much less to live up to.

Another friend responded: It’s like cockroaches, you know if you've seen one because they make you all shuddery and icked out. You've probably seen Paris Hilton and she's made you feel like that.
This is one of my favourite similes ever, Paris Hilton is like a cockroach.
( Veronica Mars ‘Plan B’ 2:17, or My happy inner fangirl )
( Bones ‘The Man with the Bone’ 1:18, Pirates!!! )
Six degrees of Joss on last night's Bones:
Rodney Rowland who plays Dane McGinnis on Bones is the very scary Liam Fitzpatrick on Veronica Mars (he was on VM last night too), was also Corbin Fries on Angel (“Conviction” 5:1).
Fredric Lehne who plays Giles Hardewicke on Bones was Ranse Burgess on Firefly (“Heart of Gold”). He also is Marshal Edward Mars on Lost.
David Wells who plays Harley Frankel on Bones was the Cheese Man on Buffy (“Restless” 4:22)!!
( Lost ‘Dave’ 2:18, It’s all about Hurley )
( The Amazing Race 9 ‘Sleep Deprivation is Really Starting to Irritate Me’ 9:6 )
( Smallville 'Void' 5:17, They taunted us with no James Marsters )
I finally caught up on my lost sleep caused by evil Daylight Savings, because I accidentally slept until 3:30pm (I was up really late, vampire hours late). Fortunately I had enough time to enjoy the beautiful spring-like day and walk to work!!

On my way to work I had a freaky experience. At some subway stations there's these automatic entrances (ie. no actual people work at these entrances). There's floor to ceiling turnstiles made of really sturdy-looking materials which turn, like a revolving door, when you swipe your metropass or put in a token and thus allow you to enter the subway station. I should add at this point, that I'm TERRIFIED of getting stuck in one of these turnstile door things, because if you're stuck, there's nothing to climb over. I've actually seen a woman get stuck in one of these turnstiles so this is not a totally insane fear.
Anyway, I swipe my metropass and am quickly went through the turnstile when I'm half-way in and the door stops. My heart starts pounding because even though I'm pushing on it nothing is happening. I turn around and see A GUY CRAMMED IN BEHIND ME!!!!!!!! I just about have a heart attack. I yell "Holy crap man!!" Yes, I'm ashamed to admit that I didn't even really swear, despite being completely freaked out. I guess he was trying not to pay, and sneak in behind me?
Fortunately the door had caught on him and my shoulder bag had stopped him from getting in all the way (yay bulky bag!). He immediately jumped back and I pushed my way through into the subway station. I walked really really quickly down to the platform, and didn't see him again. I am still freaked out about this.
Whenever I went outside for the rest of the day I had strangers talking to me, or asking me if the salsa I was buying in the grocery store is good. On a normal day I would have enjoyed everyone's good spirits about the warm weather but the turnstile experience had me all jumpy.
Enough of RL, on to TV talk!

Before I finish watching Bones, I just remembered this discussion my friends and I had about Snakes on a Plane which I thought I'd share:
Me: blah blah blah explaining about Snakes on a Plane.
Friend one: It's like they're combining two different fears together. So the sequel will be Spiders in an Elevator?
Friend two: And then there will be Lizards in a Closet.
Me: That sounds like a porn film.

So to ignore the stress and focus on more HAPPY things I offer you, or things that are making me happy:
1. She’s the Man: It’s the Amanda Bynes (yes the Amanda Bynes from What a Girl Wants and the tv show What I Like About You) movie that’s a teen version of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night. Bynes plays Viola, the one who disguises herself as her brother. I have a huge weakness for teen movies, and an even bigger weakness for modernizations of Shakespeare. Throw in any form of gender bending and I’m there! Seriously. I actually will be going to the theatre to see it on Saturday.
2. Veronica Mars returns to its Tuesday 9pm timeslot on April 11th: Okay I’m not sure how happy I am about this (especially since Wednesday night is the better night for my friends and I to watch the show together), but I’m trying to see this as positive because it won’t be up against Lost anymore. It’ll just be up again House and Scrubs, at least Supernatural will have already moved to Thursdays at 9pm (on March 30th.)
( A Spoilery question & thoughts about VM ‘The Quick and the Wed’ 2:15 )
Definitely good VM news: The actors who played George Michael and Maeby on Arrested Development are guest starring next week!!! VM has definitely become the place for actors from my favourite no-longer-airing shows to guest star!
3. Bones and David Boreanaz: I re-watched the yummy DB parts from last week’s fantastic episode because my friend hasn’t seen it so I had to show her!! ( Possible spoilers for Bones ‘The Woman in the Tunnel’ 1:16 )
4. In one week James Marsters returns to Smallville: He’ll be back on Thursday, March 30th at 8pm on the WB.
5. The new album, "Fox Confessor Brings the Flood" by Neko Case: It's SO good!!
I would love to have included J.August Richards being back on television but I feel like he has a less of a role on Conviction than he did during parts of Angel seasons. And on Angel he could at least kick ass. I'm still “watching” the show (ie. not really paying attention until JAR is on the screen) but I don’t recommend tuning in.
Other than my outing to see She’s the Man, I’m planning to keep my weekend void of socializing and instead I will write fic, go shopping, write fic, read fic, and catch up on tv watching. Chocolate may be involved as well.

The tricky part for me was narrowing down my favourite televisions shows to a list of just six. To make it easier I decided not to include shows that ran for only one season (eg. Firefly, My So-Called Life, Freaks & Geeks) or are in their first seasons (eg. My Name is Earl, How I Met Your Mother, the new Doctor Who). I also cheated and included BtVS and AtS as one selection even though the shows are very different and deserve to be listed on their own. I also want to give a special shout-out to Joan of Arcadia which I didn’t include because it was cancelled after 2 seasons.
List your top six favourite shows:
1. Buffy the Vampire Slayer/Angel (BtVS/AtS)
2. Everwood
3. Gilmore Girls (GG)
4. Veronica Mars (VM)
5. Battlestar Galactica (BSG)
6. Arrested Development (AD)
( The answers are here )
Other random stuff:
1. My cab driver hit on me last night. He actually gave me his phone number which I was so startled by that I just accepted. (I won’t call him though.) It was an okay experience because he wasn’t creepy about it or anything.
2.
![[livejournal.com profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/external/lj-userinfo.gif)
3. I got to play more of the BtVS video game on Friday night. So much fun. I was particularly good at being Xander which made me very happy! I also kept giggling at the cheesy lines Xander would say: “Stake. A vampire’s last meal,” and, after staking a vampire “It’s so much better if I pretend they’re all Spike” (Of course I did not imagine any slashy connotations to that statement!)
4. I’ve discovered that I get the most fic writing done on the subway. I’m thinking I need to find a few hours and just ride the subway so I can finish the fics I’m working on for

I surprised myself by not panicking at all (this is totally the kind of situation that would normally cause me to shriek and flail around). I stared at the blank screen calmly for a bit, anticipating it would fix itself. After a couple of minutes, just as I was about unplug it and plug it back in (my normally successful solution to EVERY technological problem), it started back up again.
Miraculously it immediately started recording again. I didn't realize until afterwards that the PVR had saved the previous recording so I assumed that it was lost and started watching again at 9:42pm, and - surprisingly - it didn't seem like I'd missed much. After the episode ended I discovered that the 1st part of the recording was saved, so I watched the middle part that I missed. It turns out I only missed part of a Veronica/Mac scene (sigh).
I'm all impressed with myself for not panicking, although I think I was so calm because UPN re-airs VM again on Saturday night so I knew I had another chance of seeing it. Also, I could always download if desperate.
So enough with the rambling about The Betrayal of my PVR, here's my ( spoilery thoughts on VM 'Versatile Toppings' 2:14: )
By 11:30pm I was so exhausted from the stresses of work and The Betrayal of my PVR that I collapsed into bed almost 2 hours earlier than usual. So I didn't see last night's Bones and I heard that Adam Baldwin (Jayne!!) was on, and something about naked David Boreanaz?! Fortunately my PVR didn't have any problems during the recording of Bones so I'll be able to watch it in the next couple of days.

I will miss the most dysfunctional, incestuous, unethical, uncaring BEST family on television. Perhaps in the next few days a Fox executive will say: I've made a huge mistake.
Some more sad tv-related news: Scarlett Pomers (Krya on Reba) has revealed that she's been in treatment for an eating disorder. She's only 17 years old. It's just really sad and distressing. Although at least by talking about it may help other people.
In happier, more amusing news: my dad told me that my grandpa really enjoyed Legally Blonde. I have such a hard time wrapping my head around my 90 year old grandpa watching AND liking Legally Blonde, but I guess it shows that Reese Witherspoon can make anyone like her.

Now that I’ve had time to mull over Veronica Mars “Rashard and Wallace Go to White Castle” (2:12) I actually have lots of random thoughts on the episode!! ( Spoilers for VM 2:12 )
One of my friends has a thought-provoking and comprenshive post in her blog about Canada’s new Prime Minister, Stephen Harper: so is Stephen Harper a Theocon?. If you’re concerned about Canada’s future and want to know more about Stephen Harper, it’s a must read.
In tv-related serious news, it does sound like Everwood’s fate is uncertain according Ask Ausiello at TV Guide. I’m going to write to Dawn Ostroff, the current UPN President and future Entertainment President of the CW on Everwood’s behalf:

Let’s hope this goes better than my letters about My So-Called Life and Angel. On second thought, maybe I shouldn’t write.
I also bring you more news about James Marsters on Smallville. Ask Ausiello reports:
”He'll [James Marsters] return in Episode 16, which will be our first episode back in April," reveals Al Gough in an interview I cribbed from my colleague, Matt Webb Mitovich. "And he will then appear in, I believe, two more episodes after that, leading up to the season finale."

like most Americans I watched Gilmore Girls and Supernatural. (The WB was 2nd in adults 18-49 behind Fox in ratings). To be honest, I was actually at work during the State of the Nation address and only had time to watch Gilmore Girls when I got home BUT I PVRed Supernatural and will watch it when I have time during the day (because I'm wimpy and SPN scares me).
I did watch Jon Stewart - who's been sick, poor Jon Stewart - and got my favourite quote from Bush's speech:
"America is addicted to oil."
I then watched The Colbert Report and was delighted to see David Cross (aka Tobias on Arrested Development) as "Russ Lieber"!! According to Maureen Ryan on the Chicago Tribute blog, Colbert has a feud with Lieber. This makes me wish I had more time to watch The Colbert Report more frequently.
I also have some TV news of note in my world:
- The final 4 episodes of Arrested Development will air on Friday, February 10th 8pm-10pm on Fox. Yes, that is the same time as the opening ceremony of the Olympics. Yes, Fox should announced that it will be cancelling Arrested Development any day now. I'm hoping what I've read is true, and that Showtime will pick up this fabulous show!!
- This news makes me very happy: James Marsters will return to Smallville sometime in the spring in an episode called 'Hypnotic.' He will guest star in more than this one episode.
- The WB shifts its shows around: In March Everwood moves to Monday nights at 9pm (its old time slot) and Supernatural moves to Thursdays at 9pm. Now this actually makes some sense: Smallville and Supernatural are the perfect pairing. However, Everwood shouldn't be paired with 7th Heaven because ... well it seems silly to explain that 7th Heaven is a completely crappy show (everyone knows that) whereas Everwood is one of the best shows on tv.
Speaking of Everwood, I've been irrationally worrying that it will be sacrificed when the WB and UPN become The CW. TV Gal also expresses concern for Everwood's future making me feel less silly.
Hmm. Even though it's a few hours after Veronica Mars "Rashard and Wallace Go to White Castle" (2.12), I don't have much to say about it. (Don't worry no spoilers.) I enjoyed it at the time, but I've noticed that I can't think of anything to post about VM episodes recently. Maybe because my writing partner and I are working on a VM spec script, I don't have any more energy to think about the show.
Instead of watching George W. Bush's State of the Nation address on Tuesday night, I did watch Jon Stewart - who's been sick, poor Jon Stewart - and got my favourite quote from Bush's speech:

Maybe because my writing partner and I are working on a VM spec script, I don't have any more energy to think about the show.

How awesome was last night's Gilmore Girls episode?!!! ( Friday Night's Alright for Fighting 6:13 Spoilers )
Veronica Mars episode tonight!!!! It's so nice to have the show back after so long. ( Silly thoughts/questions about 'Donut Run' 2:11 )
Random question: How do you think I was able to get chocolate on the TOP of my sock? Admittedly I had consumed chocolate earlier, but how'd it get on my sock?!!

Why? Because they have awesome customer service and helped me to fix my internet problems FAST (stuff just needed to be reset)!!! The tech support guy I spoke to was so nice (can you believe someone in tech support was nice?!) and helpful. He walked me through getting my internet working again, and wasn't condescending despite my spazziness and ditziness about the whole issue. I've also had great customer service whenever I've called about my cable and PVR (like a TIVO). I love my PVR!!!
But the best thing about getting the internet working: I CAN NOW WATCH BATTLESTAR GALACTICA 2.12!!!!! I was all annoyed on Saturday, Sunday and today because it was taking forever to download (although I now think my internet issue was part of the problem), but now it's downloading at an impressive pace!!! I'm now optimist that I'll actually be seeing the episode tonight or tomorrow.
Besides my love of Rogers, here's a couple of other random comments:
1. I've finished watching 24 season 4 and can now watch season 5!! I think season 4 was the best season I've seen (I never saw season 1). I love the cracktasticness of Jack being able to (almost) single-handedly save the world without super powers. Need someone to interrogate an important suspect? Jack's the only one to do it. Need someone to lead a field operation to capture the prime suspect? Jack. Need someone to do a super secret undercover operation? Jack. He's like Sydney Bristow without all the sexy disguises.
2. I also voted today in an advance poll because I'll be out of town on election day (which is Monday January 23rd). I'm beginning to suspect that those mysterious "people" who voted for the People's Choice Awards are the same "people" who are supporting Stephen Harper and the Conservatives. I do not want a Conservative government. shudder.
3. Why do I have to wait for another week for the return of Veronica Mars? The next new episode will be Wednesday January 25, 9pm on UPN. I'll be out of town so will have to wait until Friday night or Saturday to see it. grumble grumble
Now I'm going to watch the season 5 premiere of 24!!! Here's hoping for lots of good Chloe stuff!
